In a swift operation, the Indian Coast Guard rescued five fishermen along with their flooded fishing boat Subhamurti on Friday, a Defence release said.
According to the release, acting on a distress call at Coast Guard Remote Operating Station Porbandar at about 0730 am from the fishing boat Subhamurti carrying five fishermen regarding flooding on-board which was about 45 nautical miles off Porbandar. A merchant ship MV Rahi which was in the vicinity was immediately diverted by the Coast Guard to assist the distressed boat. Later, a Coast Guard ship C-143 was rushed to the spot which plugged the water seepage and rescued the crew and boat, Later, the team attended repairs. The boat was then directed to Porbandar harbour.
IFB Subhamurti was safely brought to the Porbandar harbour at 8:30 pm, the release added.
