AHMEDABAD, NOV 22
Ahead of the upcoming assembly election in Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to have a new star campaigner in the state — Vanathi Srinivasan, the national president of the BJP Mahila Morcha and Coimbatore South MLA.

50% of Gujarat's population are women. @BJPMahilaMorcha is reaching out to them at 'Satyanarayan Kathas' in every district to know their aspirations and to establish a dialogue with them. #Patan #GujaratElections2022 @blsanthosh @VanathiBJP pic.twitter.com/UTtNk7vhE5

By getting Vanathi Srinivasan, who has defeated Ulaga Nayagn Kamal Haassan in TN Assembly polls, the BJP is trying to gain foothold in the south.
Drafting Srinivasan, a female politician from Tamil Nadu, to campaign in a western state is being seen as one of the BJP’s many strategic moves to gain a strong foothold in Tamil Nadu where it faces stiff resistance due to ideological differences.

A lawyer-turned-politician, who has been associated with the party for over three decades, Srinivasan is one of the most recognised faces among the BJP leaders in the state.
Srinivasan has marked many firsts in her life — she is the first graduate in her family, the first to enter politics, and the first political leader from Tamil Nadu to head the Mahila Morcha nationally.
Srinivasan is gearing up for Gujarat election campaigning by camping with her mahila Morcha in full strength in Maninagar Assembly constituency in Ahmedabad which was represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as CM of two consecutive terms.
She was appointed as the President of the Mahila Morcha in 2020.
Temple visits
At the outset, Vanathi will pay her obeisance to Tamil God Lord Karthikeya at Sri Balamurugan Devasthanam run temple in Hatkeshwar at 9 am on Wednesday. Later, she will also visit other temples run by Tamils.
She will commence her door-to-door campaigning from Shri Siddhi Vinayakar Mandir in Sarvodaynagar in Khokhra.
Temples galore but no temple of knowledge for Tamils in Gujarat
Incidentally, Gujarat’s only Tamil Higher Secondary School in Maninagar was shut down last year for want of students’ strength on its Golden Jubilee year. The school trust had been urging the state government to convert it into an English-medium school which was not granted.

- It will be of great help if the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run English-medium schools introduce the option of learning Tamil.
It will be of great help if the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run English-medium schools introduce the option of learning Tamil. The BJP’s NEP lays more importance to regional languages even in professional courses. The reality is that there is no concrete foundation in linguistic minority areas of Vibrant Gujarat.
Like Kashi Sangamam promoting Tamil language and culture, Tamils longing for Sabarmati Sangamam in Mahatma’s Gujarat.
