The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) Gujarat Branch, hosted an informative and engaging interactive session on “Rainwater Harvesting for Sustainable Future” on Thursday, the eve of World Nature Conservation Day, in Ahmedabad. The event, which aimed to promote efficient rainwater harvesting techniques for water conservation, witnessed the participation of more than 50 peoples.
Amit Doshi, Director of Vardhaman Envirotech and an expert in rainwater harvesting technologies, was the speaker on the occasion.
Delivering the welcome address, Kshitij Patel, Chairman of the IACC Gujarat branch, said, “Climate change is a reality of today. Water scarcity already poses a significant challenge and is expected to worsen in the future. This session on rainwater harvesting is to create awareness about the same and how it can be done through effective and efficient rainwater harvesting systems. IACC Gujarat branch is committed to supporting awareness initiatives related to the environment.”
The consumption of fresh water, which constitutes merely three percent of the world’s water sources, has surged by over 500%, resulting in severe water scarcity in several regions. Increased urbanization and industrialization have led to a growing dependence on groundwater. It is estimated that by 2025, two-thirds of the global population will be living in water-stressed areas. Rainwater harvesting is a simple and efficient way of recharging groundwater, reducing dependence on groundwater, and resolving the water crisis to a great extent.
In his address, Amit Doshi, a leading figure in the field of water conservation with over 30,000 installations of decentralized rainwater harvesting systems across India, Asia, and Africa, shed light on the importance of water conservation in tackling the pressing issue of water scarcity.
“Our aim is to empower individuals, to contribute towards environmental conservation by providing them with convenient and affordable rainwater harvesting solutions and implementing sustainable management practices in rainwater harvesting,” he said.
Doshi also spoke about his innovative two-stage rooftop rainwater harvesting filter, NeeRain, which has made water conservation easier, cost-effective, and maintenance-free. The device has been installed in 4,000+ households and has contributed to harvesting approximately 90 crores of liter of fresh rainwater.
The session culminated with a Q&A session, where attendees sought further insights on sustainable water management practices. The event emphasized the importance of collective efforts in ensuring a water-positive future for India and the planet.
