Commodore Gautam Marwaha took over the command of Indian Naval Ship (INS) Valsura, the premier Electrical Training Establishment of the Indian Navy, from Commodore Ajay Patney at an impressive Ceremonial Parade on Monday at Jamnagar, says a Defence release.
Commodore Ajay Patney commanded INS Valsura from January 29, 2020, and contributed immensely to the training and administration of the premier naval establishment of Saurashtra region. His noteworthy efforts in fighting COVID-19 pandemic ensured continuous and sustained training at the establishment, the release added.
Commodore Gautam Marwaha was commissioned in the Indian Navy on December 5, 1992, and has served onboard frontline warships Gomati, Nirghat and Trishul with distinction.
The Commodore is an alumnus of the Naval College of Engineering, Lonavala and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has held various staff appointments at Integrated Headquarters Ministry of Defence (Navy), Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam) and Naval Dockyard (Mumbai). Commodore Gautam Marwaha has also served as the Defence Advisor at the High Commission of India, Nigeria.
Earlier as Additional General Manager (Planning), the Commodore has steered multiple refits of ships and submarines amidst the challenges posed by COVID-19. The Commodore was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2021 and has also been commended by Chief of the Naval Staff and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command in 1999 and 2003, respectively.
