Ahmedabad sees 219 cases, 3 deaths; 185 recover
Ahmedabad reported 219 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking its count to 44,909, while three patients died and 185 people were discharged from hospitals, an official said on Friday.
Of the 219 new cases, the highest for any district in the state during this period, 190 were from city limits, which also accounted for 167 of the people discharged, he said.
The district’s toll now stands at 1,947 while the number of those who have recovered from the infection is 39,637, he said.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation asked imaging centres not to perform high-resolution computerised tomography (HRCT) scan of the lungs of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients.
The AMC said it had noticed that several such patients, directed to stay in home isolation, are visiting imaging centres out of anxiety to get their lungs checked.
They were putting the lives of others at risk by breaking home isolation norms and were liable to be prosecuted under the Epidemic Diseases Act, the civic body said.

Patel, who represents the Bapunagar seat of Ahmedabad city, announced on his Twitter handle.
“I was found positive for coronavirus following an RT-PCR test. I am sure that I will recover soon with your blessings,” the legislator tweeted.
Gujarat Congress chief Amit Chavda and the party’s state unit in-charge Rajeev Satav wished Patel a speedy recovery.
No Diwali leave for govt doctors, healthcare staff
Government doctors and healthcare staff in Gujarat will not get leave during Diwali because of the coronavirus pandemic, an official release said on Friday.
The directive came from Commissioner of Health Jai Prakash Shivahare.
During the current festival season, leave should be granted to government doctors and healthcare staff only in the case of illness or unavoidable circumstances, and that too after ensuring replacement, it said.
The decision had been taken considering the pandemic and the possibility that infections may surge due to increased movement of people during the festival, the release added.
No official or employee of his department should leave the place of duty without prior permission, Shivahare added.
In a message on the eve of Diwali, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani appealed to people to remain careful while celebrating the festival and follow all the rules.
People must not forget to wear the mask or maintain social distance, he said.
