The Indian National Congress on Thursday released its third list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The 57-strong list comprises candidates in the fray from constituencies in Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh and Gujarat. In Puducherry, the grand old party has decided to field sitting MP V Vaithilingam, the list confirmed. It also confirmed the candidature of Adhir Ranjan Choudhary from West Bengal’s Barhampur seat.

“The third list of names of Congress candidates on 57 Lok Sabha seats for the Lok Sabha elections, 2024 was released in the meeting of the ‘Central Election Committee’ held under the chairmanship of Congress President Shri kharge,” Congress stated on X while releasing the list.

AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge’s son-in-law and the children of five ministers were among the list of 17 candidates from Karnataka. Satish Jarkiholi’s daughter Priyanka Jarkiholi (Chikkodi), Ramalinga Reddy’s daughter Sowmya Reddy (Bangalore South), Shivanand Patil’s daughter Samyukta S Patil (Bagalkot), Laxmi Hebbalkar’s son Mrinal Ravindra Hebbalkar (Belgaum) and Eshwar Khandre’s son Sagar Khandre (Bidar) will be contesting in the polls.

Mansoor Ali Khan, son of former Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan and Prabha Mallikarjun, wife of Minister S S Mallikarjun and daughter-in-law of veteran party leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa, are the party’s nominees from Bangalore Central and Davangere, respectively.
Meanwhile, three sitting MLAs were among the seven candidates from Maharashtra. Three-time Solapur City Central MLA Praniti Shinde (43), daughter of former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde, will contest from Solapur, while Kasbapeth legislator Ravindra Dhangekar will fight the polls from Pune. Balwant Wankhede, MLA from Daryapur, has been fielded from the Amravati seat, which is reserved for the Scheduled Castes.
Shahu Chhatrapati, the scion of the Kolhapur royal family, is the party’s candidate from Kolhapur, while Shivajirao Kalge will contest from Latur (SC) seat. As per the party’s announcement, former MLA Vasantrao Chavan has been fielded from Nanded and Gowaal K Padavi, who is the son of Congress leader KC Padavi, will contest from Nandurbar (Scheduled Tribe) seat.
Gujarat
Three sitting MLAs, one former Member of Parliament and three ex-legislators figure in the list of candidates declared by the Congress on Thursday night for 11 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat.
With this, the Congress has so far announced candidates for 17 seats in Gujarat, where it will contest 24 of the 26 constituencies.
For the high-profile Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, the Congress has chosen Sonal Patel to taken on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has been renominated by the BJP for a second term.
Patel is an architect by profession and had earlier served as president of the Gujarat Congress women’s wing.
MLA from Anklav in Anand district and leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Amit Chavda, has been nominated from the Anand Lok Sabha seat, while Lunawada legislator Gulabsinh Chauhan has been fielded by the party from Panchmahal.
Tribal leader and MLA Tushar Chaudhary, who represents the Khedbrahma (ST) seat in the assembly, will fight from Sabarkantha, which is an unreserved constituency.
For Chhota Udepur, a tribal reserved seat, the Congress has nominated former MLA and ex-Leader of Opposition in the assembly, Sukhram Rathva. Former MP Prabha Taviyad will be in the fray from the Dahod (ST) seat.
The opposition party has fielded former MLA of Kapadvanj Kalusinh Dabhi from Kheda, while ex-MLA of Siddhpur Chandanji Thakor has been given ticket from the Patan Lok Sabha seat.
Jenny Thummar, daughter of former MP Virji Thummar and currently serving as president of the Gujarat Congress women’s wing, has been selected to fight from Amreli.
For Surat, the Congress has nominated former corporator Nilesh Kumbhai. A young Patidar face, JP Marvia, an elected member of Jamnagar district panchayat, has been fielded by the party from Jamnagar.
Of the 26 parliamentary seats in Gujarat, the Congress has given Bhavnagar and Bharuch to the AAP, its ally in the INDIA bloc.
The Congress has so far announced candidates for 17 seats. The party had given ticket to its national spokesperson Rohan Gupta from Ahmedabad East, but he later withdrew from the race.
Telangana
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Thursday evening announced candidates for five Lok Sabha constituencies in the State, taking the tally of candidates declared to nine.
Among the five candidates announced include Gaddam Vamshi Krishna from Peddapalle, Sunitha Mahender Reddy from Malkajgiri, Panama Nagender from Secunderabad, Mallu Ravi from Nagarkurnool and Gaddam Ranjith Reddy from Chevella.
