CHENNAI, DEC 25

Kicking off a strategic initiative that aims at building a two-way bridge between the South Korean SME sector and the Indian Industry, Vivek Dilip, Group Director of the Chennai based Astra Group and Dr. Chang-Hoon Jeong, President of Gyeongnam Maeil, a prominent South Korean business support provider, recently signed an agreement in a well-attended ceremony in South Korea.

India and Korea share longstanding ties, with a particularly rich historical connection between Tamil culture and Korea that spans centuries. With a population of over 1.45 billion and a fast-growing economy, India offers immense market opportunities to the world.

  • Astra Group has an extensive network with over 1,800 employees spread across 13 global hubs
  • Timed to perfection with India’s “Make in India” policy and South Korea’s stated commitment to global partnerships, this collaboration will play a significant role in realizing the objectives of both the governments

However, the intricacies of entering this dynamic market can be overwhelming, especially for mid-sized foreign players. This access barrier is one of the immediate goals that this cooperation seeks to remove.

Located in South Korea’s Gyeongnam region and acclaimed for its unwavering support to the local businesses, Gyeongnam Maeil will leverage their extensive network of connections with government agencies and established companies, to act as a trusted channel for Korean firms venturing into India.

Astra Group has an extensive network with over 1,800 employees spread across 13 global hubs. Armed with a deep understanding of emerging opportunities in the global market, Astra would not only be a local intermediary for Korean companies, but also advise service providers in India on how to add value and offer competitive solutions to the world market at large.

Creation of this potential synergy is another goal that promises to be a game-changer: securing advanced products, technology and technical expertise from Korea and supplementing it with superior service support from India.

Astra’s diversified expertise spanning floating process plants, green energy solutions, smart agriculture, and multi-disciplinary design/engineering consulting services, provides Korean companies with a valuable partner with footprints across industry verticals.

Another goal of this initiative would be the establishment of a knowledge exchange platform that would upskill the Indian workforce with latest technological advancements and innovative practices while Korean companies can scale their operations with access to a cost-efficient, English educated resource base.

This would result in a mutually beneficial scenario, propelling both business growth and job creation in both the countries.

The Astra Group-Gyeongnam Maeil partnership is a pioneering step to further cross-border collaboration and create opportunities. Timed to perfection with India’s “Make in India” policy and South Korea’s stated commitment to global partnerships, this collaboration will play a significant role in realizing the objectives of both the governments.

The Joint research ventures between Indian and Korean scientists, backed by government funding, are expected to yield groundbreaking innovations in areas such as green energy, automotive, environmental, and biomedical sectors.

This partnership, over time, will exemplify how such initiatives can transcend mere market expansion; and cultivate deeper bonds, foster innovation, and pave the way for shared success and progress of nations.
