AHMEDABAD, DEC 23

On World Diabetes Day 2025-November 14, Corona Remedies Limited, one of India’s most trusted pharmaceutical companies, set a New World Record for “Most People Screened for Diabetes in a Single Day”, reinforcing its leadership in preventive healthcare and CSR-led public health initiatives. The record was formally recognised by World Records India in the presence of Nirav K. Mehta, Managing Director & CEO; Dr. Kirtikumar Mehta, Chairman; and Paavan Solanki, Editor & Chief of World Records India.
The milestone was achieved through the company’s flagship nationwide initiative — PANDA STUDY (Pan-India Assessment for Diabetes Awareness) — a mass awareness and free diabetes screening programme designed to bridge the critical awareness gap between urban and rural India, while promoting early diagnosis, lifestyle correction and long-term disease prevention.
Record-Breaking Reach, Nationwide Impact
In a single day on 14 November 2025, 434 doctors across 233 locations screened 7,086 individuals, establishing a new benchmark in community-driven health outreach. The initiative brought diabetes screening directly to cities, towns and remote villages, where awareness about symptoms, food habits and lifestyle risks remains alarmingly low.
Health studies indicate that urban populations show higher awareness of diabetes, while rural communities continue to face delayed diagnosis, largely due to lack of screening and limited understanding of lifestyle-linked risk factors — a gap the PANDA Study directly addresses.
Lifestyle & Food Habits: The First Line of Defence
Beyond screening, Corona Remedies’ campaign placed strong emphasis on lifestyle modification as the most effective tool to arrest diabetes and pre-diabetes. Doctors and health teams educated participants on:
- Importance of balanced nutrition and reduced intake of refined sugars
• Role of regular physical activity in improving insulin sensitivity
• Weight management and stress control
• Avoiding sedentary habits linked to urban lifestyles
Special focus was laid on gestational diabetes, highlighting how healthy food choices, timely screening during pregnancy, and regular monitoring can protect both mother and child, and significantly reduce the risk of developing Type-2 diabetes later in life.
CSR in Action: From Remote Villages to Schools
Highlighting the company’s long-term CSR vision, Dr Vijay Charlu, President (India Business), Corona Remedies Limited, said, “As part of the company’s CSR activity, the company used to visit remote villages with medical teams to conduct diabetes awareness camps and hold screening of all age groups. Diabetes is preventable if detected at an early stage. We also make school visits to check students.”
These initiatives aim to instil healthy habits early, ensuring that diet awareness, physical activity and preventive screening become part of everyday life, especially among younger populations.
Advancing Diabetes Care: CGMS Changes the Game
Alongside prevention, the programme also spotlighted advancements in diabetes management, particularly the growing availability of Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems (CGMS). Doctors explained how CGMS enables:
- Real-time glucose tracking
• Better food-glucose correlation
• Improved lifestyle decisions
• Reduced complications through early alerts
The use of Continuous Glucose Monitors ( CGMs) marks a major shift from episodic testing to continuous, data-driven diabetes care, empowering patients to actively manage their condition. However all cannot afford this as it is priced around Rs 5,000 and imported and not made in India, the experts said
Expert Voices Stress Early Control
Reinforcing the medical urgency, Tushar Toohy, GM (Sales) noted, “If diabetes is not controlled it will lead to many complications like kidney related diseases and heart problems and also retinopathy affecting eyes.”
Recognising the Team Behind the Milestone
For their contribution to this historic initiative, Dr Vijay Charlu, Cecil Christian, Bhaveshkumar Shukla, Tushar Toohy, DhwaniBahen Arvindbhai Patel and M. Sadanand were honoured with certificates of appreciation by Nirav Mehta and Paavan Solanki.
A Blueprint for Preventive Healthcare
Corona Remedies’ world-record achievement stands as a powerful example of how corporate responsibility, medical collaboration and lifestyle education can come together to combat one of India’s fastest-growing health challenges. By combining screening, awareness, nutrition education, lifestyle counselling and modern technologies like CGMS, the PANDA Study charts a sustainable path toward a diabetes-aware and healthier India.
