Gujarat registered 283 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 8,21,659 on Thursday, while 770 patients recovered from the infection, the state Health Department said.

A release from the department said the death toll reached 10,018 after 6 more patients succumbed to the infection – 2 each in Ahmedabad and Surat district and one each in Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar.

As many as 770 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, pushing the number of recovered cases to 8,03,892, it said. The rate of recovery now stands at 97.84 percent, the release said.
Gujarat has 7,749 active cases, a drop of around 5,000 cases in just one week, the department said. Surat city recorded the maximum number of new cases – at 48 – followed by 47 in Ahmedabad city and 18 in Rajkot city, the release said. A total of 2,12,92,259 people have been vaccinated so far in the state. During the day, 2.52 lakh eligible persons received coronavirus vaccines, it said.
Ten new cases were reported in the adjoining Union Territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in the last 24 hours, said an official release. Also, 5 patients recovered from the infection in the UT, it said. Out of 10,463 persons found positive for coronavirus in the Union Territory since the outbreak, four have died, 10,391 recovered while 68 patients are under treatment, the release said.
