Two more patients, including an elderly man, succumbed to COVID-19 in Gujarat in the past 12 hours, taking the toll in the state to 19, a top health official said.
The two, who died during the last 12 hours, were a 40-year-old man from Ahmedabad and an 81-year-old man from Gandhinagar, said Principal Secretary, Health, Jayanti Ravi. While the patient from Ahmedabad was suffering from a kidney ailment, the elderly man from Gandhinagar contracted the virus from close contact, she said.
Gujarat reported 46 new COViD-19 cases in the 12 hours up to the morning of Friday taking the total positive cases in the State to 308. The State government has continued extensive testing drive in the hotspot clusters with average 1,000 tests being done daily.
“In the last 24 hours we have tested 978 samples, out of which 67 are coronavirus positive. The total number of coronavirus positive cases in the state at 308, including 259 active cases, of which 2 are on ventilators,” Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary (Health), Gujarat, said.

The State health authorities have conducted over 978 tests in the past 24 hours, Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary – Health, Gujarat government, said in the morning.
Of the new cases reported on Friday morning, Vadodara reported a maximum of 17 cases, taking the total positive cases in the district to 39. Ahmedabad reported 11 new cases – nearly all from the identified hotspot clusters.

Bharuch district reported its first four positive cases pointing at a further spread of the virus in the State.
As many as 15 localities in 4 cities, where clustering of the virus infection was noticed, were sealed, putting nearly 1.5 lakh population under a ‘virtual’ quarantine.
Total 19 districts have reported the presence of the coronavirus. Notably, the State had reported its first positive case on March 19.

Overall, Ahmedabad district has the most positive cases at 153 and seven deaths followed by Vadodara (39 cases, 2 deaths), Surat (24 cases, 4 deaths), Bhavnagar (22 cases, 2 deaths), Rajkot (18 cases), Gandhinagar (14 cases, 1 death), Patan (14 cases, 1 death), Porbandar (3 cases), Kutch (4), Bharuch (4), Mehsana (2), Gir Somnath (2), Chhota Udepur (2), Anand (2), Panchmahal (1 case, one death), Jamnagar (1 case), Morbi (1) Sabarkantha (1) and Dahod (1).
Of the 308 cases, 30 patients have been discharged, 257 are stable, and two are on the ventilator as on Friday morning.

The total number of people under quarantine is 12,352, of which 11,015 are under home quarantine, 1170 under government quarantine and 167 in private facilities.
So far, total 6,738 tests have been conducted, of which 6,154 are negative, and results for 276 are awaited as on Friday morning.

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra ordered the use of force if people resisted being taken to hospital as the AMC began aggressive testing. Nehra tweeted, “Now, those who have tested positive are refusing to get admitted in a hospital… How much more difficult will some people make it for us to save their lives?! I have ordered the use of force if required.”
Ravi added that the state at present has 70,000 RTPCR kits and additionally, SVP Hospital, too, has now received approval from ICMR to begin testing. With this, the state now has 10 diagnostic testing facilities, including three private facilities. In 24 hours, 1,975 samples were taken.

“Besides, around 3,000 to 4,000 rapid antibody test kits are expected to arrive (from the Centre) by Friday evening or Saturday. We have ordered for 50,000 but it requires to be imported so may take some time,” said Ravi.

WR installs walkthrough sanitisation tunnel at Ahmedabad station
The Western Railways has installed a walk through sanitization tunnel at Ahmedabad railway station on Thursday. It was inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager Deepak Jha.
The tunnel has a capacity of sanitizing 25 to 30 persons per minute and consumes approximately 20 ml sanitizer per person. This is a pilot project at Railway stations on Indian Railways and requirements based more mass sanitizer will be installed in the future.
This Walk as Through Mass Sanitizing tunnel has a length of 20 feet which can be covered within 10 seconds and is fitted with a sensor so that when a passenger approaches the tunnel entrance it starts fogging automatically with the WHO-approved sanitizer consisting of IPA & Hydrogen Peroxide based liquid sanitizer.
