Gujarat reported 1,343 new coronavirus caseson Saturday, increasing the state’s infection count to 1,41,398, the health department said.
With 12 deaths, the number of coronavirus patients who died in the state rose to 3,490, it said.
At the same time, recoveries increased to 1,21,119, with 1,304 patients getting discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, the department said in its release in the evening.
Gujarat now has a recovery rate of 85.66 percent.
As many as 57,065 coronavirus tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, at the rate of 877.92 tests per day per million population.
Gujarat’s coronavirus figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,41,398, New cases 1,343, Death toll 3,490, Recovered patients 1,21,119, Active cases 16,789, and People tested so far 45,88,563.
Ahmedabad records 194 new cases, four more deaths
With the addition of 194 cases of COVID-19, the infection count in Ahmedabad district rose to 37,432 on Saturday, an official from the health department said.
Four fatalities took the death toll in the district to 1,838, the official said.
254 patients were discharged from various hospitals, raising the number of recoveries to 31,607.
As per an official report, recoveries outnumbered new cases in Ahmedabad city, with 237 patients getting discharged as against 171 persons testing positive for coronavirus.
Rural Ahmedabad reported 23 new cases and 17 recoveries, it was stated.
Of the four deaths, three were reported from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) limits and one was recorded in rural areas.
Ahmedabad city’s west zone accounts for the highest number of active cases with 641 patients, followed by the north-west zone with 637 patients.
Of the city’s seven zones, the north zone has the least active cases at 347.
The number of micro containment areas in the city has come down to 194, with the removal of 11 and addition of six areas, a civic official said.
As many as 1,411 of 1,870 beds for COVID-19 patients in the city’s 64 private hospitals requisitioned by the AMC are occupied, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said.
With 277 new cases, Surat count nears 30k mark
The number of COVID-19 cases in Surat reached 29,036 after 277 people were detected with the infection on Saturday, while three deaths took the toll to 947, an official said.
The number of people who were discharged during the day was a robust 299, including 181 in city limits, officials pointed out.
“Of the new cases, 173 are in city limits and the rest in rural areas. A total of 19,927 people have been discharged within Surat Municipal Corporation limits so far, which is a recovery rate of 90.4 per cent,” he said.
Athwa reported 28 new cases, raising its tally to 4,041, the highest among zones under SMC, officials said.
Kamrej taluka is the worst-hit as far as rural areas of the district are concerned, with 1,525 cases, including 85 deaths.
SMC officials said 657 people working in the cloth markets here were tested for the virus but none of the reports returned positive.
