Citizens of Ahmedabad have paid homage to 17 officers of Gujarat Police who lost their lives to COVID-19 in their line of duty by organizing a Shraddhanjali function at Sardar Patel Smarak in Shahibaug here on Tuesday, 72nd Republic Day.
The event was lead by Prakash Rao and conceptualized by Om Adhyaru, Kamal Seva Charitable Trust along with Surendra Rajput, and Chandrakant Jaiswal of Asarva.
It was indeed an emotional moment for Sonal Ashokbhai Bhatt, police from Sabarmati Central Jail, as she received the certificate of bravery on behalf of her father Ashok Bhatt, who had served in Naroda police station for nearly 38 years. Despite infected with the corona pandemic, he performed his duty.
While receiving the bravery certificate Sonal chanted ‘Jai Hind’ and pledged to follow her father’s footsteps and work with more vigour.
It was a very emotional moment for the family members of all these 17 officers who had been laid to rest without any rituals owing to the pandemic protocols.
Many sanyasis and sadhus were specially invited from Kashi and Mathura to chant the Hindu mantras so that the departed souls can rest in peace, said the organisers.
