Former French Colony and Union Territory Puducherry has witnessed a drop in the daily count of coronavirus cases as 46 new infections on Sunday taking the overall tally to 36,693. No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions in the union territory today.
According to a release from Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar, the 46 fresh cases were detected at the end of examination of 3,586 samples. The Director said while 22 of the positive cases were reported during the last 24 hours from Puducherry region, Karaikal reported 10, Yanam had one and Mahe region 13 cases.
He noted that the fatality and recovery rates today were 1.66 percent and 96.82 percent respectively. As many as 88 patients were discharged today after treatment from hospitals.
The department had tested 3.80 lakh samples so far and it was found that 3.39 lakh out of them came out negative. While 559 cases were active, the total patients treated and discharged so far were 35,525. The toll remained 609, Dr. Mohan added.
