COVID-19 fatalities continued to rise in Puducherry with six more people, including two women, succumbing to the viral infection on Friday, pushing the toll in the union territory to 143.

The overall COVID-19 tally mounted to 9,594 as 313 fresh cases were added in the last 24 hours. Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that six people died of the virus.
Most of the deceased had comorbidities and they were in the age group ranging between 48 and 88 years. Kumar said the fresh cases were identified after examination of 1,229 samples. While there were 3,517 active cases, as many as 5,934 patient recovered and were discharged till date.
The official said 300 patients were discharged during last twenty four hours. The fatality rate was 1.49 percent while recovery rate was 61,85 percent, he said. So far 61,343 samples were tested in Union Territory and 50,170 out of them were found to be negative.
