In view of coronavirus spread and three weeks lockdown, the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry governments’ have announced mass promotion of students studying from Class 1 to Class IX, statements from the respective government released here on Wednesday said.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami held a review meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday. After, the meeting the Chief Minister in a statement said the decision has been taken for the safeguard of students against ongoing coronavirus pandemic amid countrywide lockdown.
The cancellation of the annual examination was taken considering the welfare of students due to closure of educational institutes, Palaniswami said adding that he ordered the school education department to announce promotion of all students enrolled in class 1 to 9.
“For plus-two students who could not sit for write exam on March 24, exams will be separately held and a date will be notified later,” the statement said.
Tea shops too will be shut from 6 p.m
As tea shops across the state are crowded, the chief minister ordered to close down all the shops from 6 p.m. today till further orders in Tamilnadu.
Mass promotion from Class 1 to 9 in Puducherry
The Puducherry government on Wednesday announced cancellation of all examinations for students of Standard 1-9 in the Union Territory as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-I9. Director of School Education P T Rudra Goud said in a release that the students were also granted “automatic promotion to the next higher class” without exams.
It is applicable for all the private schools also. The government had already declared holiday for 21 days from Wednesday to all government offices except those engaged in essential services like health, water supply, electricity, milk supply among others in Puducherry.
