Gujarat reported 988 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 2,37,247, while more than 1,200 patients recovered from the infection, said the state health department.

With seven more fatalities, the death toll rose to 4,248, said the department in a release.
Recovery outnumbered new cases with a total of 1,209 COVID-19 patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, it said.
This pushed the number of recovered cases to 2,21,602, said the release.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in Gujarat now stands at 93.41 percent with a total of 11,397 active cases as of date, it said.
As many as54,587 tests were conducted for the virus in the last 24 hours at a rate of 839.80 tests per day per million population, the release said.
With this, the tally of samples tested so far rose to 91,62,980.
For the second day of running this week, Gujarat reported less than 1,000 cases in a day.
Ahmedabad district recorded 209 new cases, Surat 160, Vadodara 137, and Rajkot 133.
Among other districts, Mehsana recorded 35 new cases, Gandhinagar 33, Kheda 32, Jamnagar 27, Panchmahal 24, Dahod 23, Junagadh, and Bhavnagar 15 each, Banaskantha, Kutch and Mahisagar 13 each.
Out of the seven fresh deaths, five were reported in Ahmedabad and one each in Botad and Surat, the release said.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, one new COVID-19 case was recorded (in Daman), taking the number of infections in the UT to 3,336, health officials said.
With 3,325 patients getting discharged and two deaths, the adjoining UT has nine active cases, they said.

Ahmedabad records 209 new cases; five deaths
With the addition of 209 new cases, the COVID-19 tally in Ahmedabad district rose to 56,005, an official from the health department said on Tuesday.
As many as five patients died of the infection, while 213 recovered from it, the official said.
With this, the toll in the district stood at 2,219, while the number of recoveries rose to 50,792, he said.
As per an official release, Ahmedabad city reported 201 new cases and 200 recoveries, while the rural parts reported eight new cases and 13 recoveries.
Western parts of Ahmedabad continue to report the highest number of active cases, as the north-west zone leads with 408 infections, followed by the southwest zone with 405, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation stated.
According to the civic body, the number of micro- containment areas in the city has further come down to 11, with the removal of four areas and no new additions.
A total of 3,842 cases have so far been reported in rural Ahmedabad, which currently has 17 active cases.
As many as 3,765 patients have been discharged so far in rural parts of the district, taking the recovery rate to 98 percent, a district health official said.
Surat district reports 160 new cases, one death
Surat district reported 160 new coronavirus cases and one fatality on Tuesday, the state health department said.
With this, the number of coronavirus cases in Surat district rose to 47,843, and the death toll to 1,123, said the department in a release.
Also, 146 patients recovered from the infection during the day and were discharged from hospitals, it said.
A total of 128 cases were recorded in Surat city, which also reported 127 recoveries.
In rural Surat, 32 new cases and 19 recoveries were reported, said the release.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in Surat city stands at 95.41 percent with a total of 34,172 patients getting discharged so far, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said.
As many as 11,247 people are quarantined in the city, while 236 COVID-19 patients are admitted in various city hospitals, the SMC said.
Out of the 236 hospitalised patients, 81 are admitted in two government hospitals – civil hospital and SMIMER – with bed occupancy rates of 2.4 and 3.4 percent, respectively, said the civic body in a release.
Athwa locality in Surat city has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases so far at 6,851 followed by Katargam at 5,839 cases, it said.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka has reported the highest number of cases till now at 2,482 followed by Choryasi at 2,359, health officials said.
