Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 82,087 with the addition of 1,145 new cases on Wednesday, while 17 more patients succumbed to the infection, the state health department said.

With 17 fatalities, the state’s death toll rose to 2,839, it said.
As many as 1,120 patients were discharged, raising the number of recovered cases in Gujarat to 64,830, the department said in a release.
The state has achieved a recovery rate of 78.98 percent, it said.
Surat reported the highest number of 238 new COVID-19 cases in Gujarat on Wednesday, followed by Ahmedabad at 163.
Among other districts, Vadodara reported 115 new cases, Rajkot 96, Jamnagar 65, Bhavnagar 60, Panchmahal 44, Morbi 34, Kutch 30, Dahod 28, Amreli and Gandhinagar 27 each, Bharuch 22, Mehsana and Junagadh 20 each, Banaskantha 19, Patan 18, Anand, Gir Somnath and Valsad 13 each.
Out of the 17 deaths, Surat reported the highest number at seven, followed by Ahmedabad at four, Rajkot three, and Bhavnagar, Patan, and Gandhinagar one each.
As many as 63,031 tests were conducted in the state for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, at the rate of 969.70 tests per day per million population, the department said.
This was the highest number of tests conducted in the state in a day so far, it said.
With this, a total of 14,78,629 samples have been tested for coronavirus in the state so far, the department said.
There are now 14,418 active cases in the state, out of which 81 patients are on ventilators, and the condition of the remaining 14,337 is stable, it said.
Surat records 238 new cases; 324 discharged
Surat reported 238 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the highest for a district in Gujarat, raising its tally to 18,223, the state health department said.
The death toll in the south Gujarat district rose to 754 with seven more fatalities, it said.
The number of recovered cases in Surat rose to 14,620 with 324 more patients getting discharged, the department said.
The state reported 1,145 new cases and 1,120 recoveries on Wednesday.
Out of the 238 new COVID-19 cases, Surat city reported 166 and the rural parts of the district 72.
Also, the city (municipal corporation areas) reported three deaths and the rural parts four.
Over eight lakh people have been surveyed in the COVID-19-affected areas in the city so far, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said.
It said as many as 26,144 people are quarantined in the city.
Also, as many as 6,202 persons are quarantined in rural Surat, local officials said.

163 new coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, four deaths
Ahmedabad reported 163 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday which took the case count in the district to 29,490, the Gujarat health department said.
With four patients succumbing, the COVID-19 death toll in the district rose to 1,670, it said.
180 patients were discharged from hospitals, which took the number of recovered cases in the district to 24,422.
Ahmedabad city reported 146 new cases while the rest of the district reported 17 cases. All four deaths were reported from the city, the department said.
Since July 27, Ahmedabad city has reported less than 150 new cases every day.
It had reported 208 cases on July 1, as per the data provided by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
As many as 83.6 percent of total cases, or 23,228 patients, have recovered in the city so far, the AMC said.
The city has witnessed 1,625 COVID-19 deaths so far, which is 5.8 percent of total cases.
At 2,926, the active cases are 10.5 percent of total cases, it said.
The number of recovered cases in rural Ahmedabad is 1,431 or 92 percent of the total, said a district Panchayat release. As many as 28 patients were discharged from hospitals in rural parts of the district on Wednesday, it said.
