Gujarat reported 992 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 1,69,073, while recoveries continued to outstrip fresh infections with 1,238 patients being discharged in the day, the state health department said.
With five more deaths, the number of fatalities in the state rose to 3,698, it said.

The number of patients getting discharged on Tuesday stood at 1,238, taking the count of recovered cases in Gujarat to 1,51,888, the department said in a release.
This further pushed the state’s recovery rate to 89. 84 percent, it said.
A total of 51,927 tests were conducted in the state for coronavirus over the last 24 hours, taking the number of samples tested so far to 58,45,715.

Surat district reported 225 new cases, followed by Ahmedabad at 170 and Vadodara at 114, the release said.
Among other districts, Rajkot reported 94 new cases, Gandhinagar 46, Mehsana 35, Patan 33, Jamnagar 26, Sabarkantha 25, Bharuch 20, Surendranagar and Junagadh 18 each, Amreli and Banaskantha 17, Anand, and Panchmahal 13 each, Kutch, Morbi and Narmada 12 each, among others, it said.
Out of the five fresh deaths, two each were reported from Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar, and one from Surat, the release said.
The state’s active cases now stand at 13,487, out of which 64 patients are on ventilators.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,206 with the addition of three new infections – one from Daman and two from DNH, officials said.
The number of recovered cases in the adjoining UT also rose to 3,156 with five more patients getting discharged from hospitals – four from DNH (Dadra and Nagar Haveli) and one from Daman, they said.

Ahmedabad sees 170 new cases, 2 deaths; 328 recover
The COVID-19 tally in Ahmedabad district increased by 170 on Tuesday to reach 41,798, while 328 people were discharged during the day and two patients succumbed to the infection, an official said.
The number of people who have recovered so far stands at 36,413, while the overall death toll is 1,909, he added.
“There were 158 new cases in Ahmedabad city and 310 people were discharged, while these figures were 12 and 18 respectively in the rural parts,” the official said.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s west zone leads with 562 active cases, followed by 536 in the north-west, while the central zone is at the other end with 334 active cases.
A total of 1,095 out of 2,056 beds for COVID-19 treatment in 70 hospitals are occupied, a rate of 53.25 percent, the Ahmedabad Hospitals, and Nursing Homes Association said.
“In isolation wards, 436 beds are occupied and 400 available, while in ICUs with ventilator, 87 beds are occupied and 74 available,”it said.

Surat count goes up by 225; tally reaches 35,036
Surat on Tuesday recorded 225 new COVID-19 cases, the highest in Gujarat, that raised its tally to 35,036, an official from the health department said.
With a single casualty, the toll in the district rose to 1,009, the official said.
The number of recoveries exceeded fresh infections in both Surat city and rural areas, he said.
Surat city reported 163 new cases and 193 recoveries, while the rural parts reported 62 new cases and 82 recoveries, he said.
According to the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), the recovery rate in the city rose to 92.8 percent, as 24,248 patients have been discharged so far.
As many as 19,538 people are currently quarantined, and 8,33,901 surveyed so far, it was stated.
At least 433 patients are undergoing treatment in the city, of which 118 are admitted in two government hospitals, it said.
As many as 35 new cases were detected at Asthwa locality, which has reported 4,884 cases so far, the highest among the eight city zones, the SMC said.
With 4,471 cases, including 21 on Tuesday, Katargam comes second, it was stated.
In rural Surat, total COVID-19 cases in Kamrej taluka stands at 1,900, followed by Choryasi follows with 1,858, the official said.
