Gujarat reported 1,126 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 80,942, while 20 more patients succumbed to the infection, seven of them in Surat, the state health department said.

With 20 more patients dying due to COVID-19, the toll in the state rose to 2,822, it said.
The number of recovered cases rose to 63,710 with 1,131 more patients getting discharged from hospitals, the department said in a release.

Surat reported the highest number of 252 new cases, followed by 165 in Ahmedabad and 111 in Vadodara, it said.
Among other districts, Rajkot reported 98 new cases, Jamnagar 58, Morbi 46, Bhavnagar 43, Panchmahal 39, Dahod 28, Gandhinagar 27, Banaskantha and Bharuch 26 each, Mehsana 18, Kutch 17, Amreli, Gir Somnath and Mahisagar 15 each, Navsari, Patan, Surendranagar and Valsad 10 each, Porbandar nine and Anand eight, the department said.

As many as seven patients died in Surat, four in Ahmedabad, two each in Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Kutch, and one each in Gir Somnath, Rajkot, and Vadodara, the department said.
Tests were conducted on 57,234 samples in the last 24 hours at the rate of 880.52 tests per day per million population, the department said in its release.
With this, the total number of samples collected so far in the state rose to 14,15,598, it said.
In terms of daily cases, Gujarat is placed 14th among states, the department said, citing a comparative tally.
Currently, a total of 5,07,188 persons are quarantined in the state, it said.

Surat records 252 new cases; 348 recover, 7 die
Surat’s COVID-19 tally neared the 18,000-mark with 252 new cases on Tuesday, the highest for a district in Gujarat, the state health department said.
With 252 new cases, Surat district’s tally rose to 17,985, the health department said.
It said with seven new deaths, also the highest in the state that reported 20 fatalities, Surat district”s COVID-19 toll increased to 747.
As many as 348 patients were discharged on Tuesday, said the department, taking the number of recovered cases to 14,296 in the south Gujarat district.
Surat city(municipal corporation areas) reported 175 new cases and the rural parts of the district 77, the department said in a release.
Out of the 348 recoveries, 305 were reported from the city and 43 from the rural parts of the district.
As per the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), the city has reported a total of 14,270 COVID-19 cases so far along with 580 deaths.
As many as 11,456 patients have been discharged in the city so far, the SMC said in a release.
The city civic body has surveyed 7.80 lakh population in COVID-19 affected areas, and 25,391 persons were quarantined currently, the SMC said.
In rural Surat, Choryasi taluka reported the highest number of 18 new cases on Tuesday, followed by Olpad at 15 and Mangrol 12, district health officials said.
Three out of the seven new deaths were reported from the district’s rural parts, where the COVID-19 fatalities rose to 167, the release said.
Ahmedabad count rises by 165 to 29,327; four die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district increased by 165 to 29,327 on Tuesday while the death toll rose by four to 1,666, the Gujarat health department said.
With 178 patients getting discharged in the day, including 156 in Ahmedabad city and 22 in rural areas, the number of recoveries went up to 24,242 in the district, it said.
Of the 165 new cases, Ahmedabad city added 149 patients while 16 cases were reported from rural areas, the department said.
All four deaths occurred in the city, it said.
As per the COVID-19 bulletin issued by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), 23,072 cases or 83.5 percent of the total patients in the city under its jurisdiction have recovered from the infection so far.
A total of 1,621 patients or 5.9 percent (of total patients) have succumbed to the infection so far.
The western zone in the city has the highest 527 or 17.9 percent of active cases, followed by the south and north zones.
The number of patients discharged in rural parts of Ahmedabad rose to 1,408 out of the total 1,547 cases, district health officials said.
