Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1,81,670 with the addition of 971 new cases on Monday, while nearly 1,000 patients recovered from the infection, the state health department said.
Ghotlodiya MLA Bhupendra Patel contracted coronavirus, hospitalised in Ahmedabad.
The number of COVID-19 fatalities in Gujarat increased to 3,768 after five more patients died, it said.
Recoveries outnumbered new cases with 993 patients getting discharged in the last 24 hours, the department said.
This pushed the number of recovered cases to 1,65,589, said the department in a release.
As many as 51,789 tests were conducted in the state over the last 24 hours, at a rate of 796.75 tests per day per million population, raising the total number of samples tested so far for the virus to 65,19,943, it said.
Surat reported 189 new cases, the highest in the state, closely followed by Ahmedabad at 183. Vadodara also reported over 100 new cases at 129.
Among other districts, Rajkot reported 90 cases, Mehsana 45, Gandhinagar 39, Patan 38, Banaskantha, and Surendranagar 21 each, Kutch 20, Jamnagar and Junagadh 16 each, Amreli and Dahod 15 each, Morbi 14 and Kheda 12.
In terms of death, Ahmedabad and Rajkot reported two fatalities each and Mehsana one, said the department.
The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 12,313, of which 64 patients are on ventilators, it said.
In the adjoining Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the total COVID-19 cases rose to 3,248 with the addition of one new case.
With three patients getting discharged, all in Daman, the number of recovered cases in Daman rose to 3,223, health officials said.

Ahmedabad records 183 new COVID-19 cases, 184 recoveries
The number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 44,106 after 183 more persons tested positive for the infection on Monday, said the Gujarat health department.
Two more COVID-19 patients died in the district, raising the total fatalities to 1,936, it said.
The department said in a release that 184 patients were also discharged, pushing the number of recoveries in the district to 38,988.
While Ahmedabad city reported 160 recoveries and 169 new cases, the rural parts of the district recorded 24 recoveries and 14 fresh infections, the release said.
The number of active cases remained the highest in the north-west zone at 443, followed by the south zone at 432.
The west zone accounted for 431 active cases, the third-highest among the city’s seven zones.
The central zone continued to have the lowest number of 280 active cases, said the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in a release on Monday.
The bed occupancy rate in the city’s 70 private hospitals requisitioned for treatment of COVID-19 patients stood at 68.7 percent, with 1,407 beds occupied out of 2,047 available.
In isolation wards, 545 beds are occupied and 261 available, while in the high-dependency units, 553 beds are occupied and 207 available.
In ICUs with ventilators, 92 beds are occupied and 68 available, said the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association in its update.
