As many as 1,404 fresh cases of coronavirus emerged in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 1,34,623 on Monday, while 1,336 people recovered from the infection, said the state Health Department.
A release by the Health Department said 12 persons with the COVID-19 infection also died across the state during the same period, taking the toll to 3,431.
The government said 1,336 persons were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recovered cases to 1,14,476.
While cases in Ahmedabad are on the rise for the past one week, Surat still remains the worst-affected district with 302 new infections emerging in the last 24 hours.
Ahmedabad was on the second spot with 210 new cases – 180 from the city and 30 from rural areas of the district, the release said.
Other districts where a significant number of cases were detected included Rajkot (148), Vadodara (141), Jamnagar (95), Mehsana (43), and Kutch district (37), it said.
Of the dozen persons who succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours, 5 died in Surat, 3 in Ahmedabad, 2 in Rajkot, and one each in Vadodara and Bharuch.
The release said Gujarat has conducted over 42.93 lakh tests so far and has 16,716 active cases at present.
Among the patients under treatment, 91 are on ventilators, while 16,625 are in stable condition.
With over 61,300 tests conducted in 24 hours, the highest so far in a day, the per million average has gone up to 943.32 tests per day, the release said.
It added that Gujarat’s recovery rate now stands at 85.03 percent with over 1.14 lakh patient discharges registered so far.

Surat sees 302 cases, 5 deaths; 290 discharged
The number of COVID-19 cases in Surat increased by 302 in the last 24 hours to reach 27,583, while five deaths took the toll to 930, an official said on Monday.
Surat’s tally is the highest in the state after Ahmedabad, which has 36,455 cases as of now.
“Today’s addition of 302 cases is the highest in the state. It comprises 176 from city limits and 126 from rural areas of the district. In the last 24 hours, three people died in the rural areas and two in the city,” an official said.
The number of people discharged in Surat, at 290, was also the highest in the state, he added.
The city has a recovery rate of 90.1 percent, with 19,032 people having been released post-treatment so far, a Surat Municipal Corporation release said.
210 new coronavirus cases found in Ahmedabad district
Ahmedabad district recorded 210 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 36,455 on Monday, the state Health Department said.
Out of these 210 new cases, 180 cases were reported from Ahmedabad city and 30 cases from rural parts of the district, said a release by the Health Department.
There has been a gradual spike in daily cases in Ahmedabad city for the last two weeks.
On September 17, the city reported 151 new COVID-19 cases, which has now gone up to 180.
In a move to stop human-to-human transmission of the virus, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday ordered shutting down all food joints on 27 different stretches of roads between 10 pm and 6 am.
With the death of three more COVID-19 patients, the toll in the district reached 1,822, the release said.
Also, 210 patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the district were discharged in the last 24 hours, the state government release added.
With these, the tally of recovered cases in the district went up to 30,336, it said.
These recoveries included 195 from the city and 15 from the villages of Ahmedabad district.
Out of the total 3,431 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,822 were recorded from Ahmedabad district alone.
