COVID-19: Gujarat reports 1,270 new cases; 1,465 recover, 12 die

With the addition of 1,270 coronavirus positive cases in Gujarat on Thursday, the state”s infection tally reached 2,24,081, the health department said.

The number of daily cases in the state has come down from over 1,600 to under 1,300 within two weeks.

The virus claimed the lives of 12 patients in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 4,135, it said in a statement.

A total of 1,465 patients recovered from the infection during the day and were given the discharge from hospitals. This took the recovery count in the state to 2,06,126.

Of the 12 patients who died during the day, seven succumbed to the infection in Ahmedabad city, three in Surat district, and one each in Vadodara and Mehsana.

Ahmedabad district reported 278 new COVID-19 cases, followed by 196 in Surat, 179 in Vadodara, 124 in Rajkot, 58 in Gandhinagar, 50 in Mehsana, and 37 in Patan.

Gujarat’s recovery rate now stands at 91.99 percent, the release said.

As many as 60,547 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the count of tests to 84.92 lakh till now.

In the adjoining union territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, no new case of coronavirus emerged during the day, while one patient recovered.

Two persons have died there due to the infection so far, while 21 cases are still active, a release by the UT administration said.

Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are positive cases 2,24,081; new cases 1,270; death toll 4,135; recovered 2,06,126; active cases 13,820 and people tested so far 82,92,641.

Ahmedabad reports 278 cases, 279 recoveries; 7 die

Ahmedabad district recorded 278 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, while 279 more patients recovered from the infection on Thursday, the state Health Department said.

Of these 278 new cases, the highest for a district in the state, 265 were reported from the city and 13 from villages, said a release by the Health Department.

Ahmedabad’s tally of positive cases has now gone up to 53,188, it said.

Seven more patients succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll in the district to 2,152, the release said.

Also, 279 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the recovery tally to 47,981, it said.

While 262 recovered in the city, 17 recuperated in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) declared two more “micro-containment zones” after fresh COVID-19 cases emerged there.

The new micro-containment zones included an old-age home in the Ambli area, said an AMC release.

Surat registers 196 cases, 269 recoveries; 3 die

Surat district reported 196 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, while 269 more patients recovered from the infection on Thursday, the state Health Department said.

Three persons from Surat city succumbed to the infection during the period, taking the death toll in the district to 1,095, said a release of the Health Department.

Surat’s tally of positive cases rose to 45,804 with the addition of 196 new infections.

While 171 persons were found positive in Surat city, 25 cases were reported from the rural areas, said the release.

The release said 269 COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection – 201 in the city and 68 in the rural parts – and discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours.
