Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1,26,169 with the addition of 1,402 new cases on Tuesday, while fatalities grew to 3,355 with 16 more deaths, the state health department said.
At the same time 1,321 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recovered cases in the state to 1,06,412, a department release said.
The recovery rate has now climbed to 84.34 percent in the state, it said.
Of the 1,402 new cases of coronavirus detected in the last 24 hours, the highest 298 was recorded in Surat, while Ahmedabad reported 185 cases, Rajkot 150, Vadodara 136, and Jamnagar 123, the release said.
Among other districts, Gandhinagar reported 56 coronavirus cases, Bhavnagar 47, Banaskantha 46, Kutch 33, Mehsana 32, Amreli 29, and Panchmahal 28 among others.
Out of the 16 fresh deaths, five were reported from Surat, three each from Ahmedabad and Vadodara, two from Rajkot, and one each from Amreli, Gandhinagar, and Surendranagar, the release said.
There are 16,402 active cases in the state, of which 16,310 patients are stable, while 92 are in critical condition and on ventilator support, it said.
The state conducted 62,097 tests in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people tested so far to 39,24,463, it said.

Ahmedabad cases rise by 185 to 35,303; three die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose by 185 in the last 24 hours to 35,303, Gujarat health department said on Tuesday.
With three more patients succumbing to the infection, the toll mounted to 1,804 in the district, it said.
A total of 124 people were discharged, taking the total count of recoveries to 29,365, it said.
Out of 185 new cases, 157 were reported from Ahmedabad city while 26 cases were reported from rural areas.
Two of the three fatalities occurred in the city while one was reported from rural areas, the department said.
Meanwhile, the number of micro containment areas in Ahmedabad has been revised to 299.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said that house-to-house surveillance and screening will be conducted in 12 new areas from where fresh COVID-19 cases were reported.
The city now has 3,575 active cases, the AMC said, adding that out of the total seven zones, the west zone accounts for the highest number of 646 such cases, whereas the central zone has the lowest number of 334 active cases.
The total count of infections in rural Ahmedabad reached 2,261 with the addition of 26 new cases.
The recovery rate in rural Ahmedabad stands at 95 percent, with 2,147 patients getting discharged so far, officials said.
This part of the district has so far reported 58 deaths.
Surat district reports 298 cases, 281 recoveries
Surat district rrted 298 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking its COVID-19 tally to 25,843, the state health department said.
With five more fatalities, the death toll in the south Gujarat district rose to 909, a department release said.
Surat city reported 179 new cases and the rural parts of the district 119.
Also, 281 more patients recovered and discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, the release.
Of these, the city reported 189 recoveries and the rural areas 92, the department said.
According to the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), out of 9,981 diamond unit workers who were tested recently for COVID-19, 329 were found to be infected with the disease.
Also, out of 7,660 textile workers, 287 tested positive for the virus, it said.
The civic administration said a high number of positivity is being detected among people coming to Surat from other districts or states.
Around 1.34 lakh migrant workers have returned to the city so far after leaving it during the early phases of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, it said.
Out of 19,394 passengers tested for coronavirus at the railway station here so far, 380 were detected with the virus, it said.
Similarly, out of 95,048 people who were tested at check-posts before entering Surat city,82 were found to be infected with the disease, the SMC said.
As part of efforts to detect “super spreaders”, COVID-19 tests were conducted on 1,099 vegetable and fruit vendors on Tuesday, of which eight returned a positive result, it said.
The SMC further said textile markets in the city have reported several cases of COVID-19.
Out of 602 workers who were tested for the virus in different textile markets in Surat, 24 showed a positive result, the civic body said Tuesday.
The SMC has advised workers to follow COVID-19 guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.
