Gujarat on Sunday reported 671 fresh coronavirus positive cases, taking the total count of infections to 2,51,944, the state health department said.
With four more patients succumbing to the viral disease, including two in Ahmedabad, the cumulative toll rose to 4,344, it said.
A total of 806 patients were discharged during the day, taking the tally of recoveries in Gujarat to 2,39,771, the department said in a release.
With this, the COVID-19 case recovery rate in Gujarat stands at 95.17 percent, while the number of active cases is 7,829.
The health department did not provide the number of tests conducted for the virus in Gujarat on Sunday.
On Saturday, 47,506 tests were conducted for the virus, which had increased the total number of samples tested in Gujarat to 1,01,01,064.
On Sunday, Surat overtook Ahmedabad in terms of the number of new cases in a day with the addition of 129 new infections, while Ahmedabad reported 126 cases. Vadodara recorded 117 cases, the department said.
Among other districts, Rajkot reported 82 new cases, Kutch 20, Gandhinagar 15, Dahod and Jamnagar 14 each, Mehsana 13, Junagadh and Sabarkantha 12 each, Bhavnagar and Banaskantha 11 each, etc.
A total of 4,86,375 people remained quarantined in different parts of the state.
Out of the 55,000 beds available for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, more than 90 percent are lying vacant in Gujarat, the department said.
Gujarat”s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 2,51,944, new cases 671, deaths 4,344, active cases 7,829, and people tested so far 1,01,01,064.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, two patients recovered from COVID-19 while no new case was reported during the day.
The overall number of recoveries in the UT stood at 3,347 against 3,352 cases registered to date.
While the number of active cases in the UT is three, two persons have died so far, officials said.
Ahmedabad sees 126 cases, 2 deaths; 151 discharged
The COVID-19 tally and toll in Ahmedabad rose by 126 and two respectively on Sunday, while 151 people recovered from the infection, an official said.
The caseload of the district is now 60,041, the toll stands at 2,269, and the recovery count is 53,967, he added.
“It is after a long time that the daily addition of cases in Ahmedabad is less than Surat. Ahmedabad city reported 123 new cases and 147 recoveries, while the rest came from the rural areas,” the official said.
An Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation official said the city has 2,342 active cases, led by the south zone with 427 active cases, followed by the west zone with 414 and the north-west zone with 377.
Bed occupancy in the city hospitals earmarked for COVID-19 treatment fell to 9.3 percent as only 321 of 3,440 beds have patients, said Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association.
“In ICUs with ventilators, 34 beds are occupied and 226 available. In ICUs without ventilators, 48 beds are occupied and 497 available,” it added.
Surat reports 129 cases, no deaths, 148 recoveries
The number of COVID-19 cases in Surat rose by 129 on Sunday, the highest for any district in Gujarat for the day, to reach 50,504, while 148 people were discharged, an official said.
Surat city accounted for 103 of the new cases and 121 of the people discharged, while the rest came from rural areas, he added.
There were no deaths on Sunday and the toll remains at 1,143, he said.
“Surat city now has a recovery rate of 96.20 percent as 36,515 people have been discharged. Now, 7,562 people are quarantined and 198 hospitalised, including 61 in civil and SMIMER, which have bed occupancy rates of 1.8 percent and 2.4 percent respectively,” he added.
The caseload in Athwa in the city stands at 7,330 while it is 6,118 in Katargam, and Kamrej leads with 2,597 cases in rural Surat, where 690 people are quarantined, he added.
