Gujarat on Saturday reported 890 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the count of infections to 2,40,995, the state health department said.

With seven more persons succumbing to the viral disease, including four in Ahmedabad and one each in Mehsana, Rajkot, and Surat, the overall death toll in the state mounted to 4,275, it said.
A total of 1,002 patients were discharged after treatment in Gujarat during the day, taking the cumulative number of recoveries to 2,26,208, the department said in a release.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 case recovery rate has improved to 93.86 percent, the department said.
With 53,539 new tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the total number of the tests conducted in Gujarat went up to 93,84,030, the release added.
Ahmedabad recorded 185 new cases, followed by Surat 164, and Vadodara 139.
Among other districts, Rajkot recorded 78 new cases, while Gandhinagar and Kutch added 29 cases each, Mehsana 24, Dahod and Bhavnagar 22 each, Bharuch 20, Kheda 19, Panchmahal and Junagadh 17 each, Patan 14, Surendranagar and Jamnagar 13 each, Sabarkantha 12, etc.
Gujarat now has 10,512 active cases.

In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, one new COVID-19 case and two recoveries were reported on Saturday.
The UT’s overall caseload has reached 3,342 while the tally of recoveries stood at 3,331, officials said, adding that the cumulative death toll stood at two.
The number of new tests and that of total tests conducted in the UT was not available.
The UT has nine active cases.

Ahmedabad records 185 new cases; 192 recoveries
As many as 185 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while 192 recovered from the infection in Ahmedabad district on Saturday, an official from the state health department said.
With this, the count of infections in the district has risen to 56,788 and the number of recoveries has reached 51,598, the official said.
Moreover, four deaths during the day have taken the district’s toll to 2,233, he said.
Ahmedabad city recorded 178 new cases and 184 recoveries, while rural Ahmedabad recorded seven new cases and eight recoveries, the official said.
According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the city’s western zone has 431 active cases, followed by 399 in the northwest zone, and 387 in the southwest zone.
The bed occupancy rate in COVID-19 designated hospitals has fallen further to below 20 percent, with 698 out of 3,552 beds in private hospitals being occupied, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said.
Meanwhile, the civic body has also begun the process of registration for the COVID-19 vaccine on its official website.
Health workers are already undertaking door-to-door surveys to register beneficiaries for vaccination and people can also approach urban health centres for the same, the civic body said.
Surat sees 164 cases, 1 death; 161 discharged
The COVID-19 tally of Surat increased by 164 on Saturday to reach 48,488, while the toll rose by one and the number of people discharged by 161, an official said.
The district has so far seen 1,130 deaths from the infection, he added.
“Surat city accounted for 128 of the new cases and 131 of the people discharged. The rest were in the rural parts. The city now has a recovery rate of 95.48 percent as 34,671 people have been discharged,” he said.
“Currently, 9,657 people are quarantined, and 231 hospitalised, including 69 in civil hospital and SMIMER, which have bed occupancy rates of 12 percent and 3 percent respectively,” he added.
In rural Surat, the tally of Kamrej increased by 11 to reach 2,514, the highest among nine talukas, while Choryasi was second with 2,392 cases, and Umarpada had the lowest infection count at 81, the official said.
