Gujarat on Saturday reported 960 new COVID-19 cases, its highest single-day surge, taking the count to 47,476 while fatalities rose by 19, including 10 in Surat, to 2,127, state health department said.
Surat reported the highest number of 268 cases, taking the total count in the district to 9,973.
With 199 cases in the day, Ahmedabad’s tally has mounted to 24,163, the department said.
Among other districts, Vadodara reported 78 new cases, followed by Rajkot 57, Junagadh 40, Bhavnagar 36, Gandhinagar 28, Mehsana 24, Banaskantha 21, Valsad 19, Navsari 17.
Kheda, Patan, and Surendranagar each reported 15 cases, followed by Bharuch 13, Sabarkantha 12, while Gir Somnath, Amreli, Dahod, and Kutch each reported ten cases, the department said.
Besides Surat (10), Ahmedabad reported four deaths in the day. While Kutch reported two fatalities, one death each was recorded in Banaskantha, Navsari, and Rajkot, it said.
As many as 1,061 patients were discharged in the day across the state, taking the number of the recovered cases to 34,005, a release said.
Surat reported the highest 337 recoveries in the day followed by Ahmedabad 169 and Rajkot 139, it said.
Gujarat now has 11,344 active cases, it said, adding that the condition of 75 patients is critical.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 47,476, new cases 960, deaths 2,127, discharged 34,005, active cases 11,344 and people tested so far 5,24,297.

268 new cases in Surat, highest in Gujarat
Surat district reported 268 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking its case tally to 9,973, the Gujarat health department said in a release here.

As in the last several days, the district again reported the highest number of new coronavirus patients in Gujarat. The overall rise in cases in the state was 960 on Saturday.
With ten fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll in the district rose to 426, the health department said.
337 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery. The number of recovered patients in the district is now 6,315.
Of 268 new cases, 203 were found in Surat city, which also accounted for seven out of ten deaths.
Katargam in Surat city reported 30 cases, the highest among city zones. The area has reported 2,008 coronavirus cases so far.
The local administration said that it has carried out a health survey of 11.34 lakh people so far.
Amid the rising number of cases, some diamond and textile units in the city have temporarily suspended operations voluntarily, while other diamond units were sealed by the authorities after new cases were reported among their employees.
Several diamond units in Umarwada and Varachha localities remain closed.
199 new cases in Ahmedabad, 4 deaths
Coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 24,163 with 199 new patients being reported on Saturday, the Gujarat health department said.
The COVID-19 death toll in the district rose to 1,541 with four new fatalities, it said.
169 patients were discharged, taking the number of recovered coronavirus cases in the district to 18,841.

Out of 199 new cases, 182 were reported from the city and 17 from other parts of the district.
All four deaths were reported from the city.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has removed 16 areas from the list of micro-containment zones while adding ten new areas to the list. The city, thus, has 206 micro containment zones now.
Rural parts of Ahmedabad district reported 17 new cases on Saturday, taking the tally of cases there to 1,053. 894, or 85 percent of these patients have recovered, the health department release said.
The district administration has decided to carry out mass screenings through mobile vans among vulnerable sections of the population in far-flung rural areas, Ahmedabad District Development Officer Arun Mahesh Babu told reporters on Saturday.
