COVID-19: Gujarat tally crosses 67K-mark, recoveries 50K

As many as 287 patients, the highest in Gujarat, recovered from Surat district, followed by 117 in Ahmedabad and 80 in Gir-Somnath district.

With 1,034 new coronavirus cases recorded in the last 24 hours, Gujarat’s tally crossed the 67,000-mark on Thursday, while 27 more patients succumbed to the infection, nine of them in Surat, the state Health Department said.

The tally of 1,034 took the number of positive cases in the state to 67,811, said a release by the Health Department.

Of the 27 persons who succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours, nine died in Surat district, followed by five each in Ahmedabad and Rajkot, three in Vadodara, two in Kutch, and one each in Jamnagar, Mehsana, and Valsad, the release said.

The fresh deaths took the statewide toll to 2,584, said the statement.

The release said 917 persons also recovered and discharged from different hospitals in the state in the last 24 hours, taking the count of such cases to 50,322.

It said Gujarat has conducted 9,03,782 tests so far.

There are 14,905 active cases in the state, of which 82 patients are on ventilators, while 14,823 are stable.

The government said the number of tests is being ramped up and over 24,000 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. This brings per million average to 377.98 test, according to the release.

With 1,034 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Gujarat was on the 13th spot in the country in terms of daily infections, a vast improvement from the time when it featured among the top five worst-affected states.

As many as 287 patients, the highest in Gujarat, recovered from Surat district, followed by 117 in Ahmedabad and 80 in Gir-Somnath district.

Out of the total 1,034 new cases, 238 were reported from Surat district alone – 184 from the city and the remaining 54 from villages.

Ahmedabad was on the second spot with 151 new cases – 137 from the city and 14 from rural areas of the district.

Ahmedabad’s tally of cases has now reached 27,434, the highest in the state, the release said.

Out of around 4.85 lakh persons currently quarantined in the state, as many as 4.83 lakh are under home quarantine and 1,406 in different facilities across Gujarat, it said.

238 cases take Surat tally above 15,000; nine die

Surat district of Gujarat recorded 238 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 15,131 on Thursday, while nine more persons succumbed to the infection, the state Health Department said.

The rise in the number of cases in Surat was the highest for any district in the state for the day, said a release by the Health Department.

Surat’s tally of 15,131 cases is second highest after Ahmedabad, where 27,434 persons have been found infected by the disease so far.

Out of these 238 new cases, 184 were from Surat city and 54 from rural parts of the district, the release said.

While five persons from the city died in the last 24 hours, four succumbed in villages, taking the toll to 658 in the district, it said.

A total of 287 persons, the highest in Gujarat, were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recovered cases to 11,101, the release said.

151 new cases in Ahmedabad; five dead, 117 recover

Ahmedabad reported 151 new coronavirus cases, which pushed the district’s tally to 27,434 on Thursday, the state health department said.

Of these new cases, 137 were reported from Ahmedabad city and 14 from other parts of the district, it said in a release.

With the death of five COVID-19 patients in the last 24 hours, the fatality count in the district reached 1,622, the department added.

As many as 117 patients recovered and were given discharge during this period, taking the number of recoveries to 22,152, it said.

These 117 recoveries, second highest after Surat, include 98 from the city.

Although the number of new coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has been on the decline since the past few weeks, it still remains the worst-hit district in terms of the total count of cases.

Of the 2,584 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,622 fatalities were from Ahmedabad district alone. While 1,564 victims were from the city, 58 deaths were also reported from different villages of the district.

Of the total number of 27,434 cases reported in the district so far, as many as 26,059 were from Ahmedabad city.
