Gujarat reported 1,204 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, raising its tally to 2,26,508, the state health department said.

With 12 fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll in the state reached 4,160, it said.

Recoveries outnumbered new cases, with 1,338 patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day. The number of recovered cases thus rose to 2,08,867, said the department in a release.

The state’s recovery rate improved to 92.21 percent.

Total 60,423 tests were conducted for the virus in the last 24 hours at the rate of 929.58 tests per day per million population.

Ahmedabad recorded 260 new cases, Surat 178, Vadodara 157, and Rajkot 126.

Among other districts, Gandhinagar recorded 56 fresh cases, Jamnagar 49, Mehsana 43, Kutch 33, Dahod 29, Bhavnagar 28, Junagadh 27, Sabarkantha 23, Kheda 22, Amreli and Morbi 20 each, Patan 18, Surendranagar 17, Banaskantha 15, Narmada 12, Anand and Bharuch 11 each, Panchmahal 10, etc.

Of the 12 fatalities, Ahmedabad recorded five, Surat two, while one death each occurred in Anand, Mehsana, Navsari, Rajkot, and Vadodara, the department said.

In the Union territory of Daman, Diu, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the COVID-19 caseload stood at 3,327 with no new cases during the day. With two more patients getting discharged, the number of recoveries reached 3,308.

There are a total of 17 active cases in the UT, officials said.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures are positive cases 2,26,508, new cases 1,204, death toll 4,160, recovered 2,08,867, active cases 13,481 and people tested so far 86,13,587.

Ahmedabad district adds 260 new COVID-19 cases; five die

Ahmedabad district on Saturday reported 260 fresh coronavirus positive cases, taking its tally to 53,714, the Gujarat health department said.

With five more patients succumbing to the viral disease, the count of fatalities in the district rose to 2,165, it said.

A total of 268 patients were discharged, taking the count of recoveries to 48,519, the department said in a release.

At 458, the north-west zone in the city has the highest number of active cases, followed by 450 in the west zone, and 416 in the south-west zone, said the AhmedabadMunicipal Corporation.

The number of micro containment areas in the city came down to 98.

Availability of beds in private COVID-19 designated hospitals has improved considerably with 1,628 beds remaining occupied out of the total 3,751, said the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association.

A total of 123 beds are available in ICUs with ventilators while 142 beds remaining occupied, it said.

Surat’s COVID-19 tally rises by 178, toll by 2; 266 recover

Surat reported 178 COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Saturday, taking the infection tally to 46,176 and toll to 1,100, an official said.

He said 205 people were discharged in city limits and 61 in the rural parts of the district.

“Of the new cases, city limits accounted for 158. The recovery rate in Surat city is now 94.79 percent. A total of 32,651 people have been discharged so far, while 15,939 people are quarantined and 365 hospitalised,” he said.

“The civil hospital and SMIMER hospital have 149 patients, and bed occupancy stands at 4 percent and 7.3 percent respectively,” a Surat Municipal Corporation official said.

Kamrej with 2,403 cases leads in rural Surat followed by Choryasi with 2,310, the official added.
