GANDHINAGAR, MARCH 23
Better late than never. Exactly a week ago, the Leader of the Opposition Party (LOP), Paresh Dhanani, on March 16, had requested the Speaker to adjourn the state assembly session due to COVID-19, which the government had rejected and following that the Congress had staged a walkout of the House.
The Gujarat state Assembly Speaker, Rajendra Trivedi on Monday, adjourned the ongoing budget session of the state Assembly for an indecisive period. The decision was taken following the present crisis due to COVID-19.
Moving forward the proposal for the adjournment, the Leader of the House and the Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani said, “Looking at the present coronavirus outbreak and the safety of all the Government employees, it seems imperative to adjourn the ongoing budget session. So I request the speaker to adjourn the House for an indecisive period.”
The proposal by the Chief Minister was supported by the Minister of Legislative Affairs, Pradeepsinh Jadeja. “I fully support the proposal by the Chief Minister.”
The Speaker accepted the proposal and adjourned the budget 2020-21 and said, “The pending businesses of the house will need to be finalized, like the Appropriation bill, the Electricity duty amendment Bill and other budgetary procedures.”
