The overall COVID-19 caseload in Puducherry shot up to 30,161 on Wednesday following addition of 490 new cases while two more succumbed to the illness.
Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that two people belonging to Puducherry died during the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Wednesday.
He said three patients from Mahe region, who died in neighbouring Kerala, were listed as cases of fatalities of Puducherry. The total number of fatalities stood at 551.
Of the 30,161 new cases, 4,680 were active, 24,930 patients recovered and were discharged. The official said the 490 new cases were identified after examination of 5,195 samples during the last 24 hours.
He said 316 patients were discharged. The fatality and recovery rates were 1.87 percent and 82.66 per cent respectively. Kumar said 2.15 lakh samples were tested so far and it was found that 1.81 lakh were negative and the result of examination of the remaining samples was awaited. Puducherry region accounted for 355 fresh cases out of the total 490 while Karaikal had 65, Yanam 13 and Mahe 57. He said 316 patients were discharged after recovery during last 24 hours.
