Gujarat reported its highest single-day spike of 1,310 coronavirus infections on Tuesday which raised the tally of cases in the state to 97,745, the state health department said.

Surat district recorded the highest 289 new infection cases.
With 14 new fatalities, the death toll in the state due to the pandemic rose to 3,036, the department said.
1,131 patients were discharged from hospitals, so the number of recovered patients rose to 78,913, it said.
The recovery rate in Gujarat now is 80.73 percent, the department said in its release.

78,070 tests were conducted for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours at the rate of 1,201.07 tests per day per million population.
Surat district reported the highest 289 new cases, followed by Ahmedabad at 159, Rajkot 125, Vadodara 121, Jamnagar 113, Bhavnagar 53, Panchmahal and Gandhinagar 37 each, Amreli 31, Mehsana 30, Patan 26, Bharuch 25, Morbi 23, Kutch, Navsari and Surendranagar 20 each, Devbhumi Dwarka 19, Dahod 16, Banaskantha 15.
Of 14 deaths, Surat reported six, Ahmedabad four, Vadodara two, Gir Somnath, and Jamnagar one each.
A total of 24,09,906 samples have been tested in the state for COVID-19 so far.
There are 15,796 active cases, of which 92 are critical and placed on ventilators.

Surat records 289 new cases; 251 discharged
The number of coronavirus cases in Surat rose to 21,401 on Tuesday after 289 more people tested positive for the infection, the highest for a district in Gujarat, the state health department said.
Surat’s toll rose to 818 with six more deaths, also the highest in the state that reported 14 fatalities in the last 24 hours, it said.
Two of the fresh deaths were reported in the city and four in the rural parts of the south Gujarat district, the department said.
The number of recovered cases in Surat rose to 17,546 with 251 more patients getting discharged, the department said in a release.
Out of the 289 new cases, 174 were reported in the city and 115 in the rural parts.
Also, out of the 251 recoveries, 168 were in the city and the remaining 83 in the rural parts.
As per the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), its health teams have so far surveyed 7.72 lakh people in the localities from where COVID-19 cases were reported.
The city’s Katargam locality has reported the highest number of 3,125 cases so far, it said.
As many as 32,964 people are quarantined in the city and 5,546 in the rural parts of the district, officials said.

A’bad reports 159 new cases; 4 die, 84 recover
Ahmedabad’s COVID-19 tally rose to 31,678 with the addition of 159 new cases on Tuesday, while four more patients succumbed to the infection, the Gujarat health department said.
The death toll in Ahmedabad district rose to 1,735 with four more patients succumbing to the infections, it said.
With 84 recoveries, the number of discharged patients in the district increased to 26,446, the department said in a release.
Ahmedabad city reported 145 of the new cases and the rural parts of the district the remaining 14, it said.
All the four deaths were reported in the city, the release added.
As per the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), there are 390 micro-containment zones or localities where movements of people have been restricted after new COVID-19 cases were reported.
On Monday, the AMC removed 19 such areas from the existing list of 382 and added another 27.
The south zone of the city has added the highest number of 12 such new areas.
As per Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association, as on Tuesday, 509 out of the 1,407 beds requisitioned by the AMC for treatment of COVID-19 patients were vacant across different hospitals, indicating a drop in their demand.
With 14 new cases, the number of COVID-19 infections in the rural parts of the district rose to 1,822, of which 1,674 have been discharged following recovery, including 20 on Tuesday, officials said.
