Tamil Nadu reported the highest single day spike in COVID-19 infections with 4,807 new cases while over 3000 people were discharged after recovery on Saturday.
The state reported 88 fatalities, the highest single day toll so far, pushing the death toll to 2,403,a health department bulletin said. With the addition of the new COVID-19 cases, the infection count has gone up to 1,65,714.
Recoveries stood at 3,049 today taking the total number of those discharged after treatment to 1,13,856 in the state, the bulletin said. Active cases stood at 49,452.
Testing of samples continued to remain high with 48,195 specimens examined today, totalling 18,79,499 so far, the bulletin added.
Chennai reported 1,219 fresh COVID-19 infections on Saturday.
