COVID-19: TN’s tally mounts to 5.75 lakh with 5,647 new cases

Tamil Nadu on Saturday reported 5,647 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,75,017, while the death toll mounted to 9,233 with 85 fatalities. Recoveries from COVID-19 were at 5,612, aggregating to 5,19,448 people getting cured so far. Active cases stood at 46,336, a health department bulletin said.

Tamil Nadu on Saturday reported 5,647 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,75,017, while the death toll mounted to 9,233 with 85 fatalities. Recoveries from COVID-19 were at 5,612, aggregating to 5,19,448 people getting cured so far. Active cases stood at 46,336, a health department bulletin said.

As many as 94,037 samples were tested and in total 70,04,558 specimens were examined so far.

Of the fresh infections, Chennai reported 1,187, Coimbatore 656, Salem 296, Chengalpet 259, Tiruvallur 235, Kancheepuram 148 while the remaining was spread across the state, the bulletin said.

The state capital accounted for 1,62,125 of the total 5.75 lakh cases reported in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu does not use Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Tests and all tests are RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction based).

Among the deceased, 75 were with co-morbidities, the bulletin added.
