Party president M.K. Stalin took this initiative after the party’s got the court’s nod to distribute relief materials and food to thousands of daily-wage workers and migrant labourers who are unable to reach their native places due to lockdown.
‘Ondrinaivom Vaa’ was launched by Stalin through a virtual-conference on Monday. During the virtual meet, the DMK Chief briefed and encouraged 200 key party members, including MPs, MLAs, district secretaries among other top leaders about the initiative, and on how to successfully implement it, to provide better help to those affected by COVID-19.
The initiative consists of five categories — Stalin Connect, People’s helpline, Nallor Koodam, Feed the Poor, Virtual Neighbourhood Groups —to reach out to 4-Crore out of the total number of over 6-Crore citizens of Tamil Nadu, a year ahead of the assembly election. The party aims to address over 2.5 lakh people’s issues and serve 20 lakh meals to the poor, reassure and connect with 10 lakh families, and create a virtual forum of over 10 lakh Good Samaritans to help those really in need of help.
Stalin called upon his party members and said, “If anyone faces an issue, they can call my office directly. We will feed the hungry as much as possible. Every DMK member will connect with their neighbourhood families to be with them as their source of courage in these desperate times.”
DMK aims to triumph over the COVID-19 crisis by joining hands and coming together in this fight. Through this collective action, the party aims to reach out to the people in need across Tamil Nadu and reduce the suffering of the citizens during these testing times.
As a start to these initiatives in coming weeks, the party chief introduced a helpline number 90730 90730 and the website www.ondrinaivomvaa.in, which will be dedicated to extending support to the needy over the coming weeks. Party sources said more updates on this are expected soon.
