Two more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Puducherry on Thursday, pushing the toll to 592 while the aggregate number of infected persons rose to 34,761 with 181 additions.
Addressing a virtual press conference, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said 181 new cases were identified at the end of examination of 4,001 samples today.
Rao said 142 patients were discharged after recovery during the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Thursday. While the fatality rate was 1.70 per cent, the recovery rate was 87.60 per cent.
The Minister said of the 34,761 overall cases of infection 3,720 were active, 30,449 patients recovered and were discharged so far. He said 33.01 lakh samples had been tested so far and 2.62 lakh out of them were found to be negative.
Result of examination of remaining samples was awaited. The two patients who died of infection had co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. Rao said Puducherry had covered around 20 per cent of the total 15 lakh population. It had emerged as the first State that had done highest sample tests in the country.
