COIMBATORE, DEC 10
Kovai District Collector on Thursday said that COVID-18 is under control but the citizens should continue to maintain all SOPs. He added that all preemptive actions have been taken to prevent the occurrence of dengue, a vectorborne fever.
Addressing reporters during his visit to the Pollachi North and South Zones on Thursday, for inspecting development works that are being carried out there, the district collector, K. Rajamani said that COVID- 19 is under control in the city and assured that there is no need to panic.
“With the number of people tested positive for the virus dropped since March, the situation is well under control and there is no need to panic. However, people must take precautions like avoiding gathering in huge numbers, following social distancing norms, and always wearing a mask while going out,” the collector added.
When pointed out that an adequate number of people are not tested for the virus, he denied such claims and said, “Daily, the PCR test is performed on as many as 4,000 people. Of them, less than 150 persons are tested positive. Steps are being taken to increase the number of daily tests.”
To a question on steps taken to combat dengue in case of an outbreak, the district collector said, “This being the season for dengue fever, the district administration, and the civic body’s health department are working in tandem to tackle its outbreak.”
