In one of the most dramatic pre-season moves ahead of IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings have traded stalwarts Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals in exchange for star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.
Calling it “a difficult but strategic transition,” CSK Managing Director KS Viswanathan said, “Trading out a player like Ravindra Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the franchise for more than a decade, and Sam Curran, was one of the toughest decisions we have taken. The move comes after mutual understanding with both players. We are deeply grateful for their extraordinary contributions.”
- Franchise calls it one of the toughest decisions in its history
- Samson’s leadership and firepower seen as key to CSK’s long-term roadmap
- Jadeja’s decade-long legacy hailed as he bids emotional farewell
Viswanathan added that CSK sees Sanju Samson as a vital long-term asset. “We welcome Sanju, whose skill-set and achievements complement our ambitions. This decision has been made with thought, respect, and a long-term vision.”
Jadeja’s Glorious CSK Era
A pillar of the franchise since 2012, Jadeja has been central to CSK’s success, featuring in three title-winning campaigns – 2018, 2021 and 2023. He leaves with an impressive tally of 150+ wickets and over 2300 runs, cementing his status as one of CSK’s all-time greats.
Samson’s Arrival Marks a New Chapter
Sanju Samson brings proven leadership and consistent batting firepower, with 4500+ IPL runs and five seasons of captaincy for Rajasthan Royals. He previously represented Delhi Capitals and led RR to the 2022 IPL final.
Curran’s Impact
England all-rounder Sam Curran, part of CSK’s 2021 title-winning squad, delivered valuable performances across three seasons, scoring 356 runs and claiming 23 wickets in 28 matches.
The blockbuster trade signals a major shift in CSK’s core, setting the stage for a refreshed leadership and batting structure as the franchise builds toward the future.
