Cycle Pure Agarbathi, part of the 7-decade old N Ranga Rao & Sons, announced annual educational scholarship worth Rs 10 lakhs to 40 differently-abled girls from Tamil Nadu on Tuesday to mark the International Day of Girl Child in Chennai.
The N Ranga Rao & Sons originated from Watrap (Vathirairuppu) near Madurai and migrated to Karnataka in late 1930s extending its philanthropy arm to the deserving differently-abled girls hailing from poor families in Tamil Nadu for the first time, said its Managing Director Arjun N Ranga.

He also said, “We are committed to uplifting the girl child and empowering them to have access to quality education. The initiative will also elevate their families from financial challenges to a certain extent. The girls that we are looking at for this scholarship should belong to underprivileged families who cannot afford education. The parents of the 8 girls that we have already identified for the scholarship are struggling daily wagers, and it is a challenge for them to provide education to their children.”
“We will increase the number of scholarships and make this an annual feature with an objective to reach out to many more children who could benefit from this initiative”, he added.
NR Foundation also running a school for the visually-challenged girls in Mysuru for over 3 decades, as of now 120 students are studying in the school. Over 800 students were given quality education through this school. Out of these, many girl students got government employment. A girl who studied here obtained master degree and joining here as teaching faculty, Arjun M Ranga added.
8 of the 40 scholarships were given away by Arjun Ranga, Managing Director, Cycle Pure Agarbathi, to deserving girls in the presence of their parents.
The remaining scholarships are now open for differently abled girls in the state. With this event, N Ranga Rao & Sons joins the global celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, themed this year as ‘Our Time is now – our rights, our future.’
The event also witnessed the unveiling of TVCs featuring renowned TV artistes such as KSSuchitra, Sathish Kumar, Vidhya Mohan, Riya Manoj, Nithish Kutty, Meera Krishnan, Ananda Selvan, and Swathi Sharma. The TV Campaign was directed by the Late Journalist Shanmugam. His mother, Ulagammal was present at the event.
