The Federation of Indian Granite and Stone Industry (FIGSI), an umbrella body of granite and natural stone industry associations across the nation, announced that it has earmarked Rs. 5-crore for the COVID-19 relief measures, a release from the federation said here on Monday.
As the spread of COVID-19 pandemic is severe, the Federation on its part has earmarked a sum Rs. 5-crore for various relief measures.
Out of this, Rs. 3.5-crore has been earmarked for the PM CARES Fund and the rest will be donated to various state governments towards COVID 19 relief fund where natural stone operations are taking place, the release added.
Apart from this, the federation has already contributed Rs.10 lakh towards the purchase of an ambulance to Jigani sector in Bengaluru Urban District and Jalore sector in Rajasthan, pure drinking RO water plant to Kagalavadi Panchayat at Chamarajanagar in Karnataka under its Corporation Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, the release added.
The fund will also be utilised for providing healthcare facilities like ambulance, ventilators, pure drinking water facilities to the stone clusters, etc. across the country which will be done during this financial year.
All contributions will be sent to the respective funds, including the PM CARES Funds, in due course.
The natural stone industry in India is one of the major forex earners apart from generating huge employment opportunities for rural folks in the semi and unskilled category.
Despite being hit hard by the pandemic and the lockdown, the federation-members have also opened their purse strings to help all its stakeholders who are badly in need of relief measures.
The release further said, whenever national calamities took place, the federation has contributed generously to the governments and NGOs towards calamity relief funds.
