As part of one of its CSR initiative, the India-based MNC – Freshworks commenced planting of 5,000 tree saplings at the campus of Government Higher Secondary School, Perungudi in Chennai on Friday. This initiative is being implemented in association with the ‘Seerakku (Bhumi)’ NGO.
Newly appointed CEO of Freshworks Dennis Woodside and Shanmuga (Shyam) Anandaraman, Director of Social Impact along with other officials inaugurated planting of tree saplings. Mr Dennis also released the book titled ‘Local nature-based Curriculum’ brought out by Palluyir Trust after studying Greater Chennai Corporation Schools. The project was supported Freshworks.
As many as 300 employees volunteered themselves to plant trees and take care of them for the next three years, said Dinesh, founder of Seerakku. 25 native species of tree saplings in 750 sq meters of the Government Higher Secondary School ground would be planted in a phased manner over three years.

The primary purpose of the initiative is to contribute to greener environment and aligns with the spirit of World Environment Day and to focus the sustainability policy of Freshworks, said Freshworks CEO Dennis Woodside.
Shyam Anandaraman said that each tree sapling planted will be geo-tagged to record its location. Employees volunteered to plant saplings and maintaining them would be given digital certificate naming them as ‘tree owner’. This would personalize their experience and strengthening the connection between the employees and the environment impact created in the surroundings.
