In her clarion call to youth, renowned philanthropist and author Sudha Murty advocated them to cultivate curiosity, learn from mistakes, and navigate life ethically and legally. While being the catalysts in changing the country through empathy and creativity, you ought to be wary of unsustainable pursuit of instant fame and wealth.
The Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardee, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murty was addressing the graduates at the 6th Convocation ceremony of Anant National University in Ahmedabad as the chief guest on Saturday.
In her pep talk, Sudha Murty said, “Life is a perennial exam without syllabus. Your alma mater Anant National University has equipped you well to clear these tests with ease. You have to cultivate curiosity, learn from mistakes, and navigate life ethically and legally. While being the catalysts in changing the country through empathy and creativity, you ought to be wary of unsustainable pursuit of instant fame and wealth. Successful people have worked for several years without fame, and with a lot of difficulties to achieve what they did. I failed miserably many times but learned a lesson from every failure.”
“As long as it is right legally and ethically, try new things, and from failure learn new things,” she said.
Emphasizing on the importance of good work ethics, Sudha Murty said, “The work ethic will not come in one day. You have to practice it. There is no shortcut to success other than hard work. Of course, you require a little bit of luck and a little bit of thinking at the right time at the right place. But without hard work, no one has come up in life”.
Highlighting the role of creativity and imagination in personal growth, Murty called for a balance between embracing technological prowess and maintaining personal connections, particularly with less privileged sections of society. Emphasizing hard work over shortcuts, she advocated helping others as a source of immense happiness.
“You are all creative individuals—creators, like Lord Brahma. Through design, you express your emotions and ideas. What truly stands out to me is how you connect with communities through your projects. In my experience, many young people today struggle to build meaningful connections, but that is not the case at Anant. This unique quality sets you apart,” added the philanthropist.
She also shared that a few of Anant National University’s innovations impressed her, particularly ADEPT, Anant Design Entrance and Proficiency Test – the only multilingual design test in our country which breaks the language barrier and reaches out to creative youth, making design education more accessible.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Piramal, President, Anant National University, said, “Anant is leading a design revolution by offering a world-class and affordable education that blends modern technology with traditional practices. We have remained committed to nurturing young minds through our DesignX approach, preparing them to address global challenges with creativity, innovation, inclusivity and impact.”
Congratulating the graduands, Dr Anunaya Chaubey, Provost, Anant National University, shared, “We want our students to cultivate creativity with a critical understanding of the world – not confined to traditional classrooms but through real-life experiences working with communities in real-time.”
The ceremony also recognised 32 exceptional students across 10 categories spanning all programmes, including Academic Excellence, Outstanding Academic Performance, Best Innovation, Best Graduation Project, Best Thesis, Best Live-Action Project and Best Student.
Dr Pramath Raj Sinha, Founding Provost, Anant National University and the members of the board were present during the convocation. Dr Swati Piramal, Vice Chairperson, Piramal Group, also attended the ceremony.
