‘The World Dance Day’ was celebrated with much pomp and gaiety by JCARC (Shree Jagannath Cultural Academy and Research Centre) along with the Orissa Socio-Cultural Association, Ahmedabad (OSCA), in collaboration with ‘Gujarat State Sangeet Natak Academy (GSSNA), Gandhinagar.’ They organised a variety dance programme depicting cultures of Odisha and Gujarat in Classical Odissi, Sambalpuri and other dance forms such as Garba and Kuchipudi at JCARC Complex in Adalaj area of Ahmedabad on Saturday
Blending together of the cultures of Odisha and Gujarat as also cultures of other states was a step in the right direction in creating ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. The programme witnessed various dance forms performed by noted artists of national and international repute.
Dances started with Apsaras of Rani ki Vav by Dr Suprava Mishra’s team, followed by Shringar by P Sudharani’s team, Simhandani Nrityam by Smita Shastri’s team, Mataji Garba by Niyatiben Dave’s team and finally by Sambalpuri Dances by Sambalpur Kalaparishad that ended with everyone in the audience dancing to the famous tune of Rangabati.
H K Dash, IAS (Retd), who was also Ex Chief Vigilance Commissioner of Gujarat and President, OSCA termed this event a historic one that would pave the way of collaborative endeavours of the Government of Gujarat with JCARC and OSCA in making ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ .
Ashwani Kumar, Principal Secretary, Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities, Government of Gujarat considered this event a milestone under the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and applauded the facilities that are available at JCARC Complex that would help in blending various cultures of the country especially that of Gujarat with Odisha.
The programme also witnessed release of a booklet on the dances by Amitabh Bhattacharya, Drector, ONGC and release of a book named “Geeta Prabhat” written by Prabhat Satpathy.
While summing up the event, Badri Narayana Mohapatra, Member Secretary,JCARC and General Secretary, OSCA stressed on the need of a permanent arrangement of JCARC and OSCA with GSSNA to utilize the institutional facilities available at JCARC for training various dance forms and organising at least 4 mega cultural events as a collaborative endeavour in blending various state cultures for the fulfilment of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Abhiyan of the Government.
The programme was also largely attended by the office-bearers and members of Odisha Associations from all over Gujarat. Prominent ones included; Amitabh Bhattacharya, IAS (Retd.) Independent Director of ONGC, and Nigamananda Das, Cultural Secretary OSCA etc
