The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) celebrated National Mathematic Day 2024 in association with the National Council for Science and Technology Communication and the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology on Friday.
Aimed at fostering love for mathematics among students from schools and colleges in Thiruvarur and nearby regions, the event witnessed participation from over 300 school students and 100 college students.
The day-long celebration began with a vibrant rally within the campus at 9:30 a.m. Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor of CUTN, flagged off the rally in the presence of Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examinations, and Dr. R. Parameshwaran, Librarian.
Following the rally, a series of engaging competitions were organized to make mathematics enjoyable and relatable for young minds.
Highlight of the day was the Mathematics Online Quiz, Mathematical Modelling for school students, and Mathematical Modelling by college students, which showcased innovative approaches to problem-solving and practical applications of mathematics.
Presiding over the event as the Chief Guest, Prof. M. Krishnan emphasized the indispensable role of mathematics in developing critical thinking and analytical skills. “Mathematics is not merely about numbers; it is a language that helps us understand the world better. Events like these inspire young minds to appreciate the beauty of mathematical thinking,” he said.
Mr. R. Sundararajan, Chief Educational Officer, Thiruvarur, presided as the Chief Guest for the valedictory event and distributed prizes to the winning schools and colleges of various competitions.
The event was jointly coordinated by Prof. R. Roopkumar and Prof. C. Vijayalakshmi, with support from the faculty members of the Mathematics and Statistics Department, CUTN. Prof Renuka Devi welcomed the gathering and Prof Loganathan proposed vote of thanks.
