Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday spoke to the three service chiefs and reviewed the preparations of the armed forces to deal with the impact of cyclone ‘Biparjoy’.
After reviewing the preparations, Singh said the armed forces are ready to provide every possible assistance to civil authorities in tackling any situation or contingency that may arise due to the cyclone.

“The Armed Forces are ready to provide every possible assistance to civil authorities in tackling any situation or contingency due to the cyclone,” he said.
Navy teams are on standby for relief operations as cyclone Biparjoy approaches the Gujarat coast. Four Navy ships with HADR bricks embarked are on standby at short notice. Meanwhile, five relief teams each at Porbandar and Okha and 15 relief teams at Valsura are on standby for rendering assistance to civil authorities. Helos at INS Hansa in Goa and INS Shikra in Mumbai are ready for embarkation/ ferry to Gujarat, the Navy said in a statement.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday chaired a meeting at the State Emergency Operation Center to assess the administrative measures in place to prepare for Cyclone Biparjoy in Gujarat.

During the review meeting, Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey informed the Chief Minister about the state government’s preparations to safeguard lives amidst the approaching storm.

Highlighting the preparedness, the Relief Commissioner mentioned the deployment of 18 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and 12 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams across the districts expected to be impacted by the cyclone.
The NDRF teams are stationed in Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Morbi, and Valsad.
Similarly, the SDRF teams are stationed in Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Morbi, Patan, and Banaskantha, with a reserve team positioned in Surat.

As a precautionary measure, more than 4,000 hoardings have been dismantled in these districts. Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) has mobilized 597 teams to restore power supply after the cyclone, with an adequate stock of wire-poles available at sub-stations.

Additional teams from unaffected districts are also on standby to ensure prompt power restoration in the potentially affected areas.
Providing meteorological insights, Regional Director of the Central Meteorological Department, Mohanty highlighted the possibility of rainfall in districts like Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Patan in North Gujarat on June 15.

Gujarat govt has evacuated over 67,000 people so far, says NDRF IG
The IG of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Narendra Singh Bundela said that the Gujarat govt has evacuated over 67,000 people so far and 18 teams of NDRF have been deployed in 9 districts of the state.
Talking about evacuation and what kind of preparations have been made by the NDRF to minimize damage, IG Bundela said, “So far, state govt has evacuated more than 67,000 people who are in 1521 shelters. 18 teams of NDRF have been deployed in 9 districts across the affected areas in Gujarat and state govt has done massive preparations so that evacuation is on time.”
Mansukh Mandaviya reviews preparedness
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness measures being taken in Kutch for cyclone Biparjoy. He visited the Bhuj Air Force station to take stock of the preparations made by ‘Garuda’ Emergency Response Team of the Indian Air Force. Mandaviya said “our jawans are fully prepared for the safety of life and property from the cyclone.”

The health minister later visited the K K Patel Super Speciality hospital in Bhuj to assess the emergency preparedness. He also reviewed the availability of oxygen, ventilators and critical care beds in Kutch district government hospitals, trust-run hospitals and other hospitals in the region.
Heavy rains lash across Gujarat
With cyclone Biparjoy approaching the Gujarat coast, parts of the Saurashtra-Kutch region received heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, the Met department said on Wednesday. In the 24 hours ending Wednesday morning, 54 talukas across the districts of Saurashtra and Kutch received more than 10 mm of rainfall, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said in a release.
The rainfall was more intense in the districts of Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar and Junagadh.
Khambhaliya taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district received the highest 121 mm of rain, followed by Dwarka (92 mm) and Kalyanpur (70 mm) during this period, the SEOC said.
Ahmedabad also got rains in the evening giving respite from scorching heat.
69 trains cancelled, several short-terminated by Western Railway
A total of 69 trains have been cancelled, while 33 trains have been short-terminated, 27 trains short-originated as a precautionary measure, in view of Cyclone Biparjoy, says CPRO Western Railway.
Dwarkadhish temple to remain shut tomorrow
In view of the expected landfall of cyclone Biparjoy near Jakhau port in Gujarat’s Kutch on Thursday, the local administration has decided to keep the famous Dwarkadhish temple in Devbhumi Dwarka district shut for devotees.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting with senior officials of Central government as well as Gujarat government to review the preparedness to minimise loss from ensuing Cyclone Biporjoy. The cyclone, which has been described as “very severe cyclonic storm” is likely to cross Gujarat coast tomorrow.
Among the officials, the meeting was attended by Kandla Port Authority, Director General of Shipping, Mercantile Marine Department, senior officials led by Chief Secretary of Gujarat State administration, Chairman of Deen Dayal Port Authority along with their disaster management team, Gujarat Maritime Department along with the disaster management teams set up by the Gujarat government.
Akashvani Tower in Dwarka dismantled
A 90 meter high Guy rope supported steel Akashvani tower in Dwarka, Gujarat has been dismantled as a precautionary measure in view of the impending cyclone Biparjoy. This has been done to prevent any mishap and minimize damages to life and property in surrounding areas. The move follows a safety audit of this 35 year old tower by the structural experts from NIT Surat and CCW who recommended the dismantling of this tower in January, 2023. Simultaneously, Akashvani is working on restoration of services from Dwarka by using the available resources.
