The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat increased to 1,55,098 with an addition of 1,175 cases on Wednesday, the state health department said.

With 11 COVID-19 patients dying, the death toll rose to 3,598, it said.

Daily recoveries continued to outnumber new cases in the state, with 1,414 patients getting discharged on Wednesday, taking the number of recovered cases to 1,36,541.

The state’s recovery rate further improved to 88.04 percent.

With 50,993 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the total samples tested for COVID-19 so far rose to 51,65,670.

Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,55,098, new cases 1,175, death toll 3,598, discharged 1,36,541, active cases 14,959, and people tested so far 51,65,670.

182 new cases in Ahmedabad, four deaths

Ahmedabad’s tally of coronavirus cases rose to 39,469 with 182 new cases being reported on Wednesday, the Gujarat health department said.

With four more fatalities, the death toll in the district rose to 1,875, it said.

The number of recovered cases rose to 34,132 after an additional 200 patients got discharged from hospitals, it said in its release.

The number of recoveries in both the city and the rural areas exceeded new cases.

While Ahmedabad city reported 165 new cases and 179 recoveries, the rural parts of the district reported 17 new cases and 21 recoveries.

Out of four deaths, three were reported in the city and one in the rural areas.

According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the city’s west zone continues to lead with 566 active cases.

Out of seven zones, the north-west zone has the second-highest number of 524 active cases, while the central zone has the lowest 290 active cases.

Out of 1,926 beds available across 66 private hospitals requisitioned by the AMC for COVID-19 patients, a 1,057 or 55 percent are occupied, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said.

Of these, 111 beds in ICUs with ventilators are occupied and 46 available, while 412 beds in isolation wards are occupied and 393 available, it said.

 252 new coronavirus cases in Surat, three deaths

Surat reported 252 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, raising its caseload to 31,957, the state health department said.

The death toll in the district rose to 982 after three more patients succumbed to the virus, it said.

At the same time, recoveries at 267 exceeded new cases. While the city reported 182 recoveries and 174 new cases, the rural parts reported 85 recoveries and 78 new cases.

Recovery rate in Surat city improved to 91.6 percent with21,933 patients getting discharged so far, said the Surat Municipal Corporation.

29,539 persons are quarantined in the city, and 9,13,118 residents have been surveyed in areas from where COVID-19 cases were reported.

City”s Athwa zone reported 36 new cases, raising its total to 4,410, the highest among eight zones, the SMC said.

With 4,117 cases, Katargam stands second, it said.

A total of 626 COVID-19 patients are admitted to various hospitals in Surat, including 245 in two government hospitals with a total capacity of 3,046 beds, the civic body said.

In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka has reported the highest number of 88 deaths and 1,710 cases so far, officials said.

Choryasi taluka has reported the second-highest number of 1,668 cases, while Olpad has reported the second-highest number of 40 deaths, they said.
