What happens when nine jets race across the sky in breathtaking formation, execute precision manoeuvres and leave trails of saffron, white and green against the morning blue? Bhavnagar is set to find out as the Indian Air Force’s celebrated Suryakiran Aerobatic Team prepares to bring a spectacular aerial extravaganza to Bor Talav (Gaurishankar Lake) on Sunday, November 1.
The display promises more than a thrilling spectacle. It will offer residents an opportunity to witness first-hand the precision, discipline, teamwork and professional excellence that underpin the Indian Air Force, while bringing the Armed Forces closer to the public.
The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team will fly nine red-and-white Hawk Mk-132 jets in a synchronised display featuring close-formation flying, loops, rolls and other intricate aerial manoeuvres. Smoke trails in the national colours are expected to add a stirring patriotic dimension to the performance.
The display is expected to last approximately 30–40 minutes. Entry is reported to be open to the public without charge, with spectators able to watch from the lakefront and other suitable locations offering a clear view of the sky.
Beyond the thrill: Inspiring the next generation
Air shows such as this are an important public outreach initiative of the Indian Air Force. According to the Ministry of Defence’s Press Information Bureau, Suryakiran displays are intended to showcase the dedication and excellence of IAF personnel, spread awareness about the Armed Forces and inspire young people to consider a career in military service. The team also serves as an ambassador of the Indian Air Force, communicating its professionalism and capabilities to audiences across India and abroad.
For students and aspiring aviators, the performance offers a glimpse of the skill, training, concentration and coordination required to operate high-performance aircraft. For the wider public, it is an opportunity to appreciate the teamwork of pilots and ground crews whose painstaking preparation makes such precision flying possible.
Suryakiran, which means “rays of the sun”, was established in 1996 and operates the Hawk Mk-132 aircraft manufactured under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The team marked its 30th anniversary in May 2026, having completed more than 800 displays in India and abroad. Its motto, Sadaiva Sarvottam — “Always the Best” — captures the standards of excellence it seeks to represent.
Bhavnagar’s date with the sky
The November 1 display will bring the aerobatic team’s celebrated performance to Bhavnagar, giving residents of the city and neighbouring areas a rare opportunity to witness the Indian Air Force’s aerial artistry.
Spectators are advised to reach the viewing area early, follow local administration and police instructions, and watch from authorised, safe locations. Practice sorties may take place before the main event, subject to the Air Force’s operational schedule.
The sky over Bor Talav is set to become a canvas for precision, courage and national pride — with a powerful message beneath the spectacle: the Indian Air Force is not only a defender of the nation’s skies but also an inspiration to those who may one day take to them.
