Comic fans of all ages, animation lovers and thronged the first edition of Ahmedabad Comic Con on Saturday to meet the top international artists from the comic culture fraternity. This two-day event will conclude on Sunday, the organisers said.
American comic book artist of Archie’s digest fame Dan Parent spoke at length about his work on the all-time favourite Archie comics and shared his experience of creating the cover of the special “Archie in the Incredible Comic Con India” edition. Later on, the fans were seen surrounding Team Bakarmax to get their hands on the newest volumes of his creations and other hits like Aap ki Poojita to Pitch Please & more!
The comic convention also hosted other popular content creators, illustrators and writers like Abhijeet Kini (Abhijeet Kini Studios), Ravi Ahuja (Bullseye Press),– and creators of immensely popular Indian webcomics like and Sumit Kumar (Bakarmax).
Creator & publisher Vivek Goel, an alumnus of Sir JJ School of Arts, launched Holy Cow Entertainment’s comic books – Age of Immortals & Shaitan. Speaking to the navjeevanexpress.com, Goel said, “He is having a team of 15 persons comprising artists, writers, and graphic artists to bring out their best comic creations. With every Comic Con event, awareness on comic books goes up by 10 percent, and their books sell like hotcakes on Amazon and other e-tail stores.”
Saumin Patel, also an alumnus of Sir JJ School of Arts and a Gujarati settled in Mumbai, said, “He has been creating comics for the last 20 years and joined hands with Comic Con to widen the network and outreach. His publications include Stint, Outrage and The Raging, an environment awareness book. His creations are meant for children above 8 years as well as elders and most of his clients are netizens.”
In a telephonic conversation, Shubham Khurana, founder of Corporat Comics and digital marketing expert, said that his work is about ordinary people going about their jobs in the corporate field. He has been drawing comics for the last six years, and he is associated with Comic Con for two years. Khurana gets inspiration from his corporate life which has a lot of hilarious moments. “I draw inspiration from my typical workweek and as well as my weekend, putting together a lot of people who are working in the corporate race. The premise is because it’s a rat race, we almost lose our identities. Everythhing I’ve put in is from the realms of work-life – from Monday morning blues, boss bashing, to the idiosyncrasies of various departments are here.”
From new comic and webcomic launches, superhero & villain overdose to an impressive line-up of power-packed performances and tons of creativity! Day 1 of Maruti Suzuki Arena Delhi Comic Con 2019 at Gujarat University Convention & Exhibition Centre, Memnagar, Ahmedabad was a paradise for the city’s fandom community. Organised in association with Vodafone, the venue of the convention was packed with a massive gathering of passionate fans hovering around the stage, experiential zones and the exhibitor area to get their hands on artwork from their favorite illustrators and merchandises. Meanwhile, the cosplayers were at their creative best while showcasing some magnificent characters.
To further engage the audience of Ahmedabad, Dance Mantra Academy had put up a power-packed & super geeky dance performance at the main arena stage which was followed by other exclusive live performances by stand-up comedian Abish Mathew, Mumbai-based popular entertainers and musicians GeekFruit and illusionist Karan Singh.
Excited about the successful conclusion of the first day, Jatin Varma, Founder of Comic Con India, said, “After establishing four successful properties, we have finally unveiled this brand new property and were overwhelmed to see the response that we were able to garner on Day 1. Eagerly waiting to ring in Day 2 with some more surprises, performances, gaming, anime and cosplay showcase.”
The event also saw an exciting line-up of experiential zones like the Maruti Suzuki Arena Zone, Vodafone zone, Doritos, WWE, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman & Scoob by Warner Bros India and The Gaming Zone by E-Sports Club.
Meanwhile, cosplayers were seen battling it out on the stage for the daily cosplay contest as well as the Indian Championship of Cosplay 2020 Ahmedabad Qualifier. The best of the best displayed their costumes and acting skills for a daily prize pool of Rs 2 lacs, which will include a grand prize worth Rs 50,000 for the ICC Qualifier & Rs 20,000 Grand Prize for the Cosplay Contest.
