On the 11th straight day, over 1,000 persons were found positive for coronavirus in Gujarat, taking the statewide tally beyond the 61,000-mark on Friday, while 23 more patients succumbed to the infection, the Health Department said.
With 1,153 new cases, second highest so far, emerging in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 tally went up to 61,438, said a release by the Health Department.
In the last 24 hours, 23 persons with the COVID-19 infection died across the state, taking the toll to 2,441, said the statement.
Of the 23 persons who succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours, 11 died in Surat district alone, followed by 4 in Ahmedabad, 3 in Vadodara, 2 in Rajkot, and one each in Junagadh, Kheda, and Mehsana.
The release added that 833 persons also recovered and discharged from different hospitals in the state during the same period, taking the number of such cases to 44,907.
Out of the total 833 patients who recovered during the day, 189 were from Surat district alone, followed by 112 in Ahmedabad and 85 in Vadodara.
With daily average recoveries now remain between 700 to 800, Gujarat”s recovery rate now stands at 73.09 percent, the department said.
With over 26,000 persons tested in a day, nearly 1,000 more than the previous day’s tally, Gujarat’s per million testing average now stands at 410.83 tests, said the release.
The release said Gujarat has conducted 7,64,777 tests so far, out of which 14,090 cases are still active. Among these, 81 patients on ventilators, while 14,009 are stable.
It said with 1,153 new cases, Gujarat was on the 12th spot in the country in terms of daily fresh infections.
Out of the 1,153 new cases, 284 were reported from Surat district alone – 219 from Surat city and 65 from villages.
Ahmedabad was on the second spot with 176 new cases, including 140 from the city area and 36 from rural areas.
Ahmedabad’s tally of total cases has now reached 26,517 cases, the highest in the state.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 61,438, new cases 1153, deaths 2441, discharged 44,907, active cases 14,090 and people tested so far 7,64,777.
284 new cases in Surat; 11 die, 189 recover
Surat district recorded 284 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 13,663 on Friday, while 11 more persons succumbed to the infection, the state Health Department said.
Surat’s tally of 13,663 cases is second highest in Gujarat after Ahmedabad, where 26,517 persons were found infected so far.
Out of the 284 new cases, 219 were from Surat city while 65 cases were from rural parts of the district, a release by the Health Department said.
While seven persons from the city died in the last 24 hours, four deaths were reported from villages, taking the toll to 597 in the district, it said.
Also, 189 persons recovered and discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, the release said.
Of the total 13,663 cases recorded so far, 10,976 cases were from the city and 2,687 from villages.
After Varachha and Katargam localities of the city, a significant number of cases were now emerging from areas like Rander, Udhana, and Athwalines, said Surat Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani.
In a message, Pani urged people to immediately get themselves hospitalised if their oxygen saturation level fell below 95.
To stop the spread of coronavirus from labourers coming back to Surat from other states, Pani said an antigen test will be conducted for all such workers.

176 new cases in Ahmedabad; 4 die, 112 recover
As many as 176 new coronavirus cases emerged in Ahmedabad district in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 26,517 on Friday, the health department said.
With the addition of 176 new cases, Ahmedabad’s tally went up to 26,517, said a health bulletin issued by the Gujarat government.

Ahmedabad’s death toll rose to 1,597 with four more fatalities registered in the last 24 hours, it said.
Though Ahmedabad saw a decline in fresh cases in the last one month, it still remains the worst-affected district in terms of total cases registered across the state till now.
The total cases in Ahmedabad are nearly half of the 61,438 cases registered across the state till now.
Out of these 176 new cases, 140 were from Ahmedabad city and 36 from rural parts of the district, said the release.
With 112 patients discharged in the last 24 hours, Ahmedabad’s tally has gone up to 21,349 recoveries, the release added.
These 112 recoveries, second highest after Surat, include 100 from the city and 12 from different villages of Ahmedabad district.
Out of the total 2,441 COVID-19 deaths registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 1,597 were from Ahmedabad district alone.
While 1,539 victims were from the city, 58 deaths were reported from different villages of Ahmedabad district till now.
Of the total 26,517 cases registered in Ahmedabad district so far, as many as 25,219 were from the city, and 1,298 were rural parts of the district.
