A special train from Madurai to Veraval carrying the first batch of delegates for Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam arrived at Ahmedabad railway station on Sunday. The train will reach Veraval tomorrow morning.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reached Somnath to inaugurate the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam tomorrow at Somnath temple.

Ahmedabad Mayor, BJP MPs and MLAs welcomed the guests from Tamil Nadu at Ahmedabad Junction at 6:10 pm on Sunday along with party workers. The passengers were offered dryfruits and icecreams.

The first train carrying 288 delegates from Tamil Nadu to Saurashtra region in Gujarat aimed at strengthening ties between the two states as part of the upcoming ‘Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam’ was flagged off at Chennai Egmore railway station by Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi on Saturday.
The special train which departed from Madurai on April 14 arrived at the Chennai Egmore Railway Station here in the early hours of Saturday.

Ravi flagged off the train, which has four coaches earmarked for delegates, and will reach Veraval in Gujarat after a 36-hour journey, Southern Railway officials said.
The cultural programme which is being organised under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
The initiative is being organised to celebrate the rich cultural bond between the natives of Saurashtra who migrated years before to Tamil Nadu and the Tamil people.
On the lines of the recently concluded Kashi-Tamil Sangamam, the Centre has organised Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is another unique exercise with the objective of enhanced and continuous mutual interaction between people of varied regions and ways of life, the official website of the campaign said.
It would be a unique example to showcase the oneness of India to the world that the Saurashtra Tamils have assimilated with traditions of Tamil Nadu and as well as preserved their language and traditions,
As part of the Sangamam, various programmes will be held at Gir, Somnath, Dwarka and the Statue of Unity from the 17th to the 30th of this month.
Gujarat Tamils travel to Somnath
Tamils residing in all parts of Gujarat have left for Somnath by airconditioned buses arranged by the Gujarat Government on Sunday evening. They will attend the inaugural function and leave tomorrow night for respective cities.
