In a meaningful step toward experiential learning, Daulatbhai Trivedi Law College, part of the Navgujarat Group of Colleges, organised an educational visit for its students to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

The visit was designed to provide budding legal professionals with practical insights into the democratic framework of the state, the functioning of the Legislative Assembly, and the intricate process of law-making that shapes governance.

Students had the opportunity to observe the institutional environment where legislation is debated and passed, helping them connect theoretical knowledge of the Constitution of India with the real-life processes that sustain democracy.

Learning the law beyond books

The visit was coordinated by Dr. Rinku Darji, Assistant Professor, who explained the structure and working procedures of the Assembly and the constitutional principles that guide legislative functioning.

“Legal education must go beyond textbooks. When students witness how legislative institutions function, they gain a deeper appreciation of the Constitution and the democratic responsibilities entrusted to lawmakers,” said Dr. Rinku Darji.

The programme enabled students to understand how debates, deliberations and procedural rules play a vital role in shaping public policy and governance.

Faculty guidance strengthens experiential learning

The visit was also supported by faculty member Dr. Lataben Menat, who accompanied the students and guided them throughout the educational tour.

“Exposure to legislative institutions encourages students to think critically about law, governance and public policy. Such visits inspire young learners to see themselves as future contributors to the legal and democratic system,” she noted.

Students expressed enthusiasm about witnessing the environment where laws affecting millions are debated and enacted.

Principal highlights the importance of civic awareness

The initiative was organised under the guidance of Dr. Ankit Kumar Rami, Principal of the college, who emphasised the value of practical exposure in legal education.

“Understanding the functioning of legislative institutions is essential for every law student. Visits like these help students appreciate how constitutional values translate into governance and law-making in real life,” said Dr. Ankit Kumar Rami.

He added that the college aims to organise more such academic programmes to nurture socially aware and professionally competent legal practitioners.

The educational visit proved to be informative, inspiring and intellectually enriching, giving students a rare opportunity to see democracy in action at one of Gujarat’s most important constitutional institutions.
